Interview with Ofo Barher

Analog or digital and why?
Digital. It's easier to carry around and move from one place to another.
What's your 'promise' to your clients?
That they will get a song sounding as good as they want it to sound or better.
What do you like most about your job?
I love creative work, so that's what I love about it, creating things from nothing.
What questions do you ask prospective clients?
What kind of work do they need, what style of music they're looking for and to show me some songs they like and what they like about them.
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
Be specific about what you want. Every client has a different taste in music and detailed information helps to know what you are looking for and complete the work the way you'd want.
What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
I learned to play drums by myself 15 years ago, I played in a couple of punk rock bands and toured a bit in Mexico, but we were really young and we took separated ways. I learned a bit of guitar and piano just for fun. Then 5 years ago I got into electronic music and started to learn how to produce it. I got into DJing because that's how I got to play my music being a producer. In 2012 I won a Corona (the beer) DJ contest in my city and got to play in one of the biggest music festivals in Mexico, and in 2014 me and a friend won the Discovery Project by Insomiac and we got to play at EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) Mexico. And now I dedicate full time to make music because it's my life's passion.
Can you share one music production tip?
Not always, but most of the time less is more. Sometimes you are not sure if something is sounding good enough and you start adding more stuff; don't do that, work with less and make the most out of it.
What type of music do you usually work on?
Trap, Melbourne Bounce, Progressive House, Tropical House and Pop Dance songs.
What do you bring to a song?
I bring my clients ideas into reality. I try to make the song sound as they are imaging it, or even better. I always put the best of me into every project and make the songs sound as good as if they were my own.
What's your typical work process?
I talk to my clients about their needs, about what kind of songs they're looking for and what kind of songs they're into, so I can get to know a bit more about them. I start by putting down some ideas and pick the best to show them and know what they think. And then I just keep working alongside them by sending them my progress and getting their feedback so the work is done exactly as how they want it.
Tell us about your studio setup.
I work with different recording studios, but what plays the most part on my productions are an iMac and Macbook Pro, Apollo Twin Solo, Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro headphones and a pair of Yamaha HS5 monitors.
Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
Ghost Producing song, remixing, mixing and mastering.
