Interview with Thomas Dennis Drums
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: There was a project called G-han. I did the drums, the mixing and the keys for this guy. It was only a studio-thing but a few days later we had a few gigs with this project. I'm very proud because i also helped this guys writting these parts and it was succesfull in the time !
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on a cd now for an English guitar player.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes there is... Lita Turner. A female singer from The Netherlands who's living in Belgium now.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both... The sound is sometimes better analog. I used to work only digital but when i started to use analog, i realized what i missed in the past !
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: If i start something i will make it the best i can. I promise that it will be great !
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It's not a job. It's a passion !
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Hi Dennis, Do you also do International gigs ? ''Yes, i do. I can come over for session-playing''
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Some people don't know how many work you have to put in before you get a killer-production.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you have a drum-line in mind ? Do you want alot of fills or should it remain simple ? When do you want the track at the latest ?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Talk to him well so that you get to know him better. A good relationship is the key to success. It must be played well of course but that is no problem for me!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Kick, snare, hi-hat, ride and pedals !
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started playing drums when I was 5. I played in a few bands where I gained a lot of experience. I always remained passionate about music. I have done a lot of studio work and I can safely say that I am very proud of that. At the age of 16 I started giving lessons. I still do this now. What I really want to achieve is that people are happy with what I have done for them and that I can make even more known. Turning your hobby into a profession is the best thing there is, isn't it?
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I can't. I have my own style !
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love too work with
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always use your ears and feel it .
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Most of the time i work on Rock-music but i did Rap and these kind of styles before !
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: That i respect other musicians and also that i always work as hard as i can and i do it good.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My feeling. I think this is the way to do it. You have to feel the music before you can play it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: People send me there songs and i will make a drumtrack for them. I love to work like this but it's up to them :)

A: I use Cubase 9.5 Pro and i usually work analog and digital. I Always use my Mac Pro to record.
