Ian Victor Schreier on SoundBetter

Very experienced audio engineer, mixer, and producer with several Grammy nominated recordings. What I do is collaborate with the artists to bring the very best out of any recording. Find the magic, what makes the song really go, and use that to guide the mixing process. Collaborative creation is truly my greatest joy.

I am an audio mixing and mastering engineer, arranger, and producer specializing in music that is performance focused (people playing instruments either solo or in a group). Love genre bending compositions and music that defies traditional definition. Mix and master for all formats (stereo, 5.1, ATMOS) I've worked at some of the greatest studios in the world. But these days, mostly I work from my own mixing and mastering room (designed and built last year). Kaleidoscope Mixing and Mastering. In addition my recording and mixing work, I love to produce/coproduce songwriters and bands. Nothing is better than the thrill of collaborative creation.

I've been working with Ian off and on since '08. I was 22 and visiting my father in NC that summer when I straight up looked for recording studios in the phonebook. I was lucky to have landed on one that he was working for at that time called Osceola. Since that day - when he set a standard for how my voice could sound on record and kind of changed my life in a way- he's done a dozen or so mixes for me and my brother over the years. Come to Ian with your shit together and he will fly you to the moon. His ear and know-how are annoyingly good.

I’ve had the pleasure and fortune of working with Ian on a couple of projects. In every way, he is a professional that is focused on bringing out the best in the people he works with, in sound and performance, as he helps create and elevate their vision into a tangible product that exceeds expectations. For us, he was instrumental in producing, arranging, recording, mixing, mastering and, on more than one occasion, mentoring. I’m forever grateful for the abundance of experience Ian shared with myself and the band and continue to be thrilled with the music he helped us share with the world.

We've worked with Ian for many years. He's a man of many talents, serving as producer, arranger, recording engineer, and even professor for a series of recording classes. Our partnership with Ian has broadened our skill sets, ears, and most importantly our friend base. He and his wife are dear friends of ours, and we are very grateful.

My band worked with Ian on our first two albums and I immediately contacted him when it came time to mix my solo project, his work is inimitable. Ian is truly one of a kind and he does his work as effortlessly and naturally as he breathes. Already looking forward to another session with the man with the golden ears.

I used to intern for Ian, and it was amazing to watch him work. I returned to him several times over the years for mixing and mastering and he can make my songs sound amazing no matter where they were recorded. Of course the best method is to let him record you. I recently brought him an old song recorded on low budget equipment that sounded very muddy. He made it sound great working remotely. I wish I was there for the session that he won a Grammy for!

I have worked with Ian as conductor of a Wind Symphony and as a drummer with the Albert-Hobbs Big Band along with several small Jazz groups for over 20 years. Ian has my highest respect with anything to do in the recording process. His ears and musical taste are impeccable! His production skills are state of the art. No matter what kind of music you want to capture, he is absolutely the best!

Ian produced, mixed and mastered my most recent Jazz combo album. He started the process with me and listened to my vision for the sound and feel I wanted for the record. He made thoughtful recommendations and helped map out the flow of each song with solos, instrumentation, percussion and vocal suggestions. As an expert in his field, he also is a great teacher and allowed me to participate during the mixing and mastering process. He helped identify opportunities to enhance certain tunes to get the exact vibe and tone of the album. He has INCREDIBLE ears for listening! 10 Star review ⭐️

Ian produced/mixed/mastered my album. If you want someone who will see a project through to the end, Ian is just that. I was amazed at how incredible the album sounded. I have had the pleasure of working with Ian on a few projects over the 25 years of I have known him. He is one of The Best engineers in the business. His ears are golden. Mixing and Mastring are definitely his craft. He also has a great skill of dealing with Artist even when they aren't ready to focus..

As an old-school producer, I "discovered" Ian after visiting a few area studios. His sound was clearly much clearer and more open. We were doing an entire 10-song album, and we did the first half of the project at Osceola in Raleigh, and the remainder completed at Abbey Road. I paid to take Ian to London as my engineer!

  1. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: Songs talk to me, They tell me what they want to be. Through conversations with the artist/composer, I find the magic.. Those special unique qualities that the makes the song special. Everything serves the song. Every tiny texture and sound is critical to the end result.Every detail must make the song better, If it doesn't, it needs to go.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: I make the whole greater than the sum of the parts. I spend a lot of time learning the artist's dream for the composition, then make it happen,
