Interview with Matt Avall
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Taylor guitar, my laptop, my Neumann phones, an audiointerface and a Roland TB-303.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Stonebridge. He’s an old hero of mine and he’s a great house producer with an insane attention to details. Also Reso because I want to lear from his crazy drum programming skills.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Have fun. And feel the music.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Classic and deep house, techno, acid, trance, drum & bass and chill/lounge.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Again, the melody. And as a former DJ a good sense of pacing and arranging.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Melody, vibe and emotion.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It all starts with a feeling or mood translating into a melody and then dictates the genre and tempo.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Homebased studio, treated with absorbers and basstraps from Hofa. Neumann monitors and headphones, iMac running Logic, Apogee Thunderbolt interface, Aston Spirit microphone and a Taylor guitar.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Stonebridge, hardfloor, Reso, Funkagenda, Hans Zimmer, Led Zeppelin
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Remixing, recording vocals and full productions.
