Sound like you… but bigger. I specialize in larger than life sound both in the studio and on the stage. Music should be an exciting visceral experience that alters the very molecules of your mind and body, and that’s exactly what I strive to deliver. Uptempo’s that hit you in the chest and ballads that bleed intimacy.
I love what I do. Nothing makes me happier than capturing the human condition in a waveform. I cut my teeth in NYC mixing live events and producing music out of my extensive home studio. My time at Lincoln Center as an Audio Supervisor gave me the unique opportunity to mix just about every genre imaginable, daily, on top of a busy freelance schedule designing and mixing audio all over the city. My approach to audio relies heavily on my training as multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and composer. I can speak with you musician to musician and give you everything you need to deliver the highest quality product possible. I believe audio is a service industry and my communication skills and artist-centric attitude are what bring my clients back again and again. (I also know what all the knobs do).
Nothing is more exciting than chasing after and discovering an artists sound. Whether we're building a single or an entire album, I will work with you to create a cohesive sound that is unique to you and your project. Presets aren't my thing. Every song is a story and every story is different. My job is to help you craft that story in the most musical way possible.

Ashton's tracks sounded really pro and he provided detailed notes about what he was looking for, sample rate and bit depth, tempo, attached a chart, etc. I didn't have to ask for any of that. Much appreciated! There was creative freedom without micromanagement. Sent him several takes and everyone was happy. Look forward to next time!

Interview with Ashton Michael Corey
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I track through analog gear and mix in the box. The fewer conversions, the better.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know what you want before you hire someone. Making a list of reference tracks and artists helps a ton. Don't be afraid to ask questions either!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Producing and mixing music live and in the studio.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have a degree in music/performance and have been working professionally in NYC as producer and mix engineer for almost a decade.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with Chris Stapleton. He is an expert story teller, musician, and vocalist.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Avoid the "fix it in the mix" mentality. If you don't like something, fix the performance and keep tracking until it's right. No amount of editing can match an excellent performance.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, Pop, Acoustic, Country, Singer-Songwriter, Blues, Folk, Americana, and World music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Chasing the sound of an artist. I love working with my clients to create a sound that is uniquely THEM.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes, there are so many!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Mix Engineers: Mike Shipley, Bob Clearmountain, Serban Ghenea, Chris Lord Alge Producers: Mutt Lange, Quincy Jones, David Foster, Jeff Lynne
