Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

A: As a vocalist and lyricist I got to work on a track with Crunkz - an upcoming German dark pop/house producer. The song has been in the making for months, because its release was constantly being postponed due to the pandemic. I'm proud of it, because it took us a lot of effort and creativity to come up with the right vibe and melodies for the track, but it was a challenge that I successfully tackled at the end. Crunkz has also been doing lots of live DJ sets with the track all over the country and it's really cool to see the song being played at big venues.

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: I think as a vocalist and songwriter you really don’t need much in terms of equipment to make magic! I’ve got RØDE NT1-A, Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD and I work in Logic Pro X.

Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: I'm currently working on a future bass track with a fellow Canadian producer which I'm super excited about because I've got a lot of experience with that genre and I think the end result is gonna be exceptional.

A: Each serves its own purpose!

Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A: They often ask me what my first impression of the song is and what my creative process is (which I’ve answered in a different question). They also ask me about my turnaround time - this largely depends on how complex the song and how much guidance I get from you, but typically I will send you a demo within a week.

Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

A: My mic, mixing board, Macbook, vocal booth and my keyboard (let’s hope there’s electricity).

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: A story, a message and most importantly an emotion.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: It depends on what I am being asked to do. If you send me an instrumental and would like to write a song from you based on it, the first listen is crucial for me. That’s when I come up with the best, most heartfelt and genuine hooks and verses. Then I’d ask you what inspired you to start making this track and if you have a rough idea what you’d like the song to be about. A lot of my clients don’t have a clear idea and that’s perfectly fine - more space for me to be creative!

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: I am particularly inspired by Sia. As a vocalist she is extremely versatile, as a lyricist and composer she can convey a lot with very little and her melodies are intuitive, genuine and super catchy. This does not only apply to her own songs, but to the dozens of #1 Billboard hits she wrote for other artists.

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A: Try to have a clear idea of what you want, that will make our collaboration go smoothly, because I can stay focused on your own vision from the start. And don't overcomplicate your songs, there's beauty in simplicity.

Q: What's your strongest skill?

A: Writing catchy melodies that instantly click with my clients.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: I will not disappoint you.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: Seeing my clients happy when listening to the first demo I send them.

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: Songwriting is a simple and quick process. When I am asked to write a song from scratch based on an instrumental, it is exciting to work with a clean canvas, but it can also take hours, days and sometimes even weeks, to write a song that is catchy and simple. Patience is key with songwriting.

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

A: The most important thing I wanna know is what vibe they're going for, i.e. Are they looking for powerful vocals? Would they like the song to have cheerful lyrics and melodies or rather something more melancholic? Questions like these really help me to ensure that I deliver the perfect result to every client.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: I firstly started as a performer, but after doing a few TV and radio singing competitions I found I naturally gravitated towards songwriting and music production. I started songwriting when I was about 16 and producing music about 2 years later.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: Simple, catchy and honest - all my songs are in one way or another based on what I experienced in the past or even what I am feeling at the moment.

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

A: Dua Lipa. I think she's a vocal powerhouse that can truly bring a song to life and her songs very much match my songwriting style.

Q: Can you share one music production tip?

A: Less is more. Often the simplest songs I have written (both in terms of melodies and lyrics) have been the most successful. Sometimes I see my clients overcomplicate their songs, but that is also the perfect opportunity for me to step in and help them fully exploit their potential without getting caught up in them. There's beauty in simplicity.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: EDM and pop, however in my free time I also write Acoustic music and produce hip-hop beats.

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: Clients often hire me for a full vocal package where I write the lyrics and melodies, as well as record my vocals including mixing and mastering. My clients always get both raw and mastered vocals, so they can either edit them as they prefer or instantly use vocals mastered by me!
