O-M-G.. I received a suggest from a friend of mine to contact OWSTR for topline and lyrics and honestly I was literally blown away by not only how fast he came back with the finished song (he literally wrote the topline and lyrics in the timeframe it took me to fund the project - ET 12h?) but the most awesome thing about it is the topline itself... I mean.. genius ? You can't go wrong with thig guy, honestly.. Thank you so much SoundBetter! Will definitelty return!

Interview with OWSTR

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: I believe nowadays people try too hard to sound like 'x' and 'y' and at the same time the overdo and put so much effort into standing out, when actually all they do is drown deeper and get lost in translation. I have a saying that goes something like "Simplicity is the true complexity". Let that sink in.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I've been working in the Media for a couple of years as part of the main production team for famous Tv Shows such as "The Voice", "Got Talent", "Masterchef" and "Dancing with the stars", where I've met a lot of amazing people which helped me develop my vision for producing quality material. I currently have 8 years of experience in the field of producing audio material and songwriting, mixing, remixing and mastering.

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: While exploring the opportunities here on SoundBetter, I stumbled on an amazing soundtrack-style instrumental beat produced by one of my current clients which blew me away. Although it was in a raw state, having way to many bars on the drop and lacking structure, effects, topline and lyrics, I immediately identified it's huge potential, I worked on the whole production, wrote a killer topline and lyrics and now the project is a success!. It will be signed to a label in LA and will get a sync deal soon in a Sports Commercial.

  7. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  8. A: A Hip-Hop Full production from scratch, which expresses the life of an aspiring female artist in LA.

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: Both. Depending on the destination or the requirements, although technology has evolved a lot so far, you will either need one or best out of both worlds.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: I will most definitely deliver, understand and bring your vision to the next level.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: There is that saying which by now most of us are aware of that "Find something that you love, and you'll never work a day in your life". So basically being in love with creating statement recordings with meaningful lyrics which the artist can identify with is an amazing and rewarding experience for me.

  15. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  16. A: Funny thing is that most of the times I ask all the possible questions and engage in the most friendly and down to earth discussion with my clients in which at the end of it, we both understand our goals.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Absolutely everything, from where they live, to what their music tastes are, their story and direction, everything which helps us both identify our goals.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Keep an open mind, do not be shy to communicate your thoughts freely and directly and most importantly, ENJOY and Have a ton of FUN! while you are creating your project of which you will be genuinely PROUD of in the end.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: The Masterpiece Lyra 2 Audio Interface, a Slate Mic, Genelec Monitors, Komplete Kontrol A61 Keyboard, Audio-Technica ATH-M70 X Headphones

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: I make people feel at home. Each project with me is a relaxing and flexible experience where artists can actually express themselves and be understood. If they find themselves in a road block, I will help them overcome that moment and release their creative juices.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Any gifted artist, experienced or not, big or small who is able to dive in and be creative, be driven and at the same time be real and human.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: It's not about the money, it's about the music. Remember that when you involve yourself in a project. Aim for understanding the vision of the project and bring the same value to each and every one.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Being able to understand music itself and the emotions revolving each genre, I am able to successfully write for virtually any style of music. So far I've had the pleasure to successfully complete Rock, Pop-Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop and Soundtrack projects.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: Once I listen to a track I am able to see the whole picture involved, starting from the artists and their musical and personal identity, the potential and direction of the material, the scene, the video, the emotions of it, everything. This way I am able to create a recording which will be a true statement.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: Vision, value and meaning.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: For songwriting and lyrics, as soon as I receive the client's request I read and understand his/her vision, after which I immediately open up their material and make a radical assessment over the direction of the track. If I do not find the track meaningful for which I can bring value to, I prefer to redirect the customer to maybe a better fit here on SoundBetter or if possible, offer to help with the production itself.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: Creators who still manage to bring and express emotion through their music. For example: 30 Seconds to Mars.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: Songwriting and lyrics. I bring a visionary topline over your beats, complemented by deep and smart lyrics.
