Jared singlehandedly took my little passion project of scratchy demos and half-formed ideas and turned it into a beautiful and dynamic album. He pulled together a wide range of talented musicians, sourced and arranged studios, and produced and mixed the record to perfection. Jared is an endless wellspring of inspiration and ideas; he managed to see the potential in every track and elevate it to something really special. His technical knowledge and skillset are exceptional, and allowed me to completely relax and trust the process. I'm so fortunate to have worked with Jared!
I hired Jared to mix a song for an album I'd recorded myself and was getting ready to release. I wasn't happy with my work on the closing song, and reached out to Jared to see if he could work some magic so the album could have a strong ending. He got back to me right away, and less than 48 hours later the song was done, and sounded much better than before. I feel a lot better about the whole album now, and wouldn't hesitate to work with Jared again.
Thoughtful technical engineer and musician who knows the sound he's looking for and works hard to get it right. It was a fun process working with Jared and he made it come out awesome!
Interview with Jared MacFarlane
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: editing vocals and mixing
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: do things in the right order/sequence and trust the people you are hiring to work on your project.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work out of my home unless I'm recording at a commercial studio for the day for something that requires it.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Helping artists and songwriters take their songs from ideas to reality of a finished product. Often taking songs from acoustic guitar or piano and vocals to full instrumentation. Often helping find and select musicians to play on their record, guiding the project and helping them find their finished sound and establishing themselves as an artist. I love recording vocals, sometimes I will just record the vocals with an artist and they will already have instrumental tracks ready to go. Aside from all this I really love mixing. I've been described as a "pro tools ninja" and editing and mixing your tracks is the main difference between something that was captured ok and something that has a polished sound and the right atmosphere for listening.
