This definitely not my first project with Brandon, he is a true professional, super easy to work with, timely, and you DON'T have to worry yourself about tracks lining up, plosives, or sibilance in the recordings. and most important an AWESOME voice

We just wrapped our second song—turning another worktape into a killer demo—and yup, he nailed it again. Had a small tweak I wanted after his first pass, and he handled it like the pro he is. Top-notch production and vocals, as always. Looking forward to the next one!

It's a challenge to write this review because, honestly, I don't want to share Brandon with anyone else — he's that exceptional. I hired him to produce a demo from a worktape and to lay down the vocals, and he knocked it out of the park! The production value was top-notch, and the vocals were spot-on. I've already booked him for another track.

Interview with Brandon Ray
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently working on many project for TV/Film as well as a brand new band called Badland Sons.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both! We started with Analog - it inspired millions. Then it evolved into digital. Both can coexist and allow everyone to create the way they see fit.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to deliver everything they're looking for to the very best of my ability.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like being able to wake up and do exactly what I love to do everyday.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I'd say be open and Don't be afraid to overcommunicate what you're looking for.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Gibson Hummingbird, '62 Fender strat, Fender Princeton Amp, A water filtration device, and a flare to alert ANYONE to take me back home haha!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: - I grew up in west Texas where there is nothing but football, dirt, and Jesus haha! I dreamed of being an athlete, but an injury forced me to quit. At 13, I bought a cheap guitar, learned every Stevie Ray Vaughn song possible, and started writing HORRIBLE songs. - From there, I started a rock band with my brother Ryan (drummer). When we graduated high school we joined the Warped Tour and spent 3 years touring all over the country learning life lessons you couldn't learn anywhere else. - At 21, I moved to Nashville, focused on songwriting, and sought out some of my heroes to truly learn the craft. Before landing a publishing deal the first year, I sang demos/tv jingles, played guitar for artists, waited tables, and worked on cars. - Soon I started landing rock cuts with bands like Hinder & others. - 4 years into living in Nashville, I joined Brett Eldredge's band and toured the country opening for Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and more. - Shortly after leaving Brett, I signed with Sony/ATV publishing and started touring as a solo artist. - Then Signed with Warner/Chappell Publishing and BOOM music (Keith Urban/Ross Copperman) Released my EP (Body Language) last year with the highlight being a song called "Ends Of the Earth" with Keith Urban singing BGV's. Since then i've been touring like crazy, recording a brand new project, and enjoying working on SoundBetter.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Bryan Adams. I personally feel that he oozes "cool" in everything he does. His writing, playing, and personality is so real. Would love to write a song then go get a beer with him!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Seek advice! Don't be afraid to get someone's thoughts about something you're working on or a question you have. 2 heads are better than one. Also - have fun, don't take yourself too seriously, and make sure you're PROUD of what you've created.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Living in Nashville, I'm typically working on Country music. However, my background is in the Rock/Pop world which is popping up more and more in my world this past year. I've also recently started finding success in the TV/Film/Synch world. So any given day, it could be anything - which I'm very thankful for.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: If you've ever heard of the Enneagram personality test, I am #2. The Helper. I feel that feeds my strongest skill which is helping people achieve the goals they dream of achieving. In this case, I want to help bring your songs to life and to the level you're hoping for.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I used to think technicality and precision were the most important things to bring to a song. Those are definitely important, but beyond anything I believe it's definitive to bring heart and emotion. If the listener doesn't feel anything when they hear the song, they'll never come back to it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: If i'm recording a vocal for a new song, I typically spend a couple hours learning and digging in, in order to give the best performance and emotion possible. Same with guitars. If a recording is rushed or forced, I believe any listener can see through it.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is very simple but very effective. - Universal Audio Apollo Twin Thunderbolt - Audio Technica 4033 Microphone - Pro Tools I work in a vibey quiet space that allows me to focus 100% on the project at hand.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My producer, and musical hero, Keith Urban has inspired me for as long as I can remember. His guitar playing, singing, songwriting, and production is unmatched. What he taught me in the studio was to stand by what I was creating. I have to love it because my name is on it. Be proud of what you do and put your heart and soul into it. Other musicians/producers that inspire me are Mutt Lange, Bryan Adams, Dann Huff, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Allen Stone, Jesse Frasure, Shane Mcanally, Timbaland, Rick Rubin, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars & more.
