Happy to say I’ve worked with Becca in many different capacities - she’s sang vocals on one of my own tracks, I’ve produced songs and played guitars for her projects, and she’s played keyboards and sang backup vocals for my live show. It’s always a pleasure collaborating with her, as she always makes sure the job gets done well while also being a total joy to work with. I’d highly recommend hiring her for your next project!

I collaborated with Becca on 2 completed and released tracks — from songwriting and composition through tracking, production and mixing. She's incredibly talented has a one-of-a-kind voice. Most importantly, she's generous, kind and is an amazing hang. Would absolutely recommend her for your next gig.

Interview with Becca Schack

  1. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  2. A: My MacBook Pro with all my plugins, Apollo Twin interface, Beyerdynamic headphones, Arturia midi keyboard, and an SSD with plenty of storage.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I began songwriting and playing music at the age of 5. When my mom signed me up for local piano lessons, the teacher had already heard of me playing by ear at friends birthday parties. I started taking voice lessons at age 11 and played piano and sang in all the ensembles, including in All-State Women's Choir. I studied music composition at Juilliard and soon after graduating with my Bachelor of Music, I started playing keyboards and singing in a few NYC indie bands, recording and touring. That's when I also discovered how much I love dance music which has been a huge influence! I started recording my own music and experimented with production, and have released many solo records, both independently and with labels. I also worked as a session singer with various production houses and labels for records and commercials. After relocating to Los Angeles, I began writing more songs for TV and scoring films. At this point, I have over 10+ years in the industry working on solo projects, musical collaborations, and creating original compositions for media. And I'm just getting started!

  5. Q: How would you describe your style?

  6. A: My songwriting, vocal, and music production style has been described as "electro-sexy" which I think sums it up perfectly! As a composer, I tend to gravitate towards creating dark, hybrid orchestral scores with otherworldly qualities, big low end, and sweeping, epic moments that feel deeply visceral.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: I'd love to work with Moses Sumney and Channel Tres, who both ooze style in their music and are incredibly original in their creative visions.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: The more specific you can be with sharing what you're looking for, the easier my job will be in getting you the best results possible the quickest. If you can spend some time with reference tracks and get to know what sounds, styles, voices, and vibes you're drawn to, that can be a wonderful place to start!

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: I'm open to many styles of music but my specialties are: Pop, Dance, Electronica, EDM, House, Commercial, Cinematic, Classical, Ambient, Chill Out, Trailerized Covers, Modern Orchestral, Hybrid Orchestral, Trip Hop and Downbeat.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Being a great listener who's empathetic and sensitive to what people are looking to achieve, and establishing a strong connection with my clients to build trust and a sense of ease.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: Curiosity, imagination, technical prowess, an open mind, and total confidence in helping you take your project to the next level.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: I'll find out what you're looking for, whether it's co-writing a song, toplining, recording vocals, a combination of these, or a fully realized track or score. We'll schedule a chat to get started and discuss your inspiration, musical references, sounds you're drawn to, and lyrical themes and ideas. Then I'll dive into the production process, with whatever your specific project calls for.

  19. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  20. A: I recently scored my first feature film. It was an amazing process because I got to work so closely with the director and producer and bring their vision to life, while integrating all my skills as a composer, songwriter and singer (as I also sang on the soundtrack). I've always wanted to compose for film and can't wait to do more work like this!

  21. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  22. A: Currently, I'm co-writing & session singing on a few tracks, writing songs for TV shows, and scoring a few beautiful short films.

  23. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  24. A: Danny Ross and Blake Robin are amazing to work with

  25. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  26. A: Both! I love the tactile nature of analog instruments and being able to produce such raw, warm, and organic sounds. But the convenience of digital plugins and computers makes everything easier for my work flow as a producer.

  27. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  28. A: I will give my all to each and every project I work on. I bring quality, professionalism, and utmost attention to detail to whatever I'm working on, so we can both be proud of our collaboration. And we'll also have some fun along the way!

  29. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  30. A: I'm living my dream by making music every day! It's extremely fulfilling to bring my talents and expertise to all of my projects.

  31. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  32. A: Can I comp, tune and time vocals - absolutely! That is part of my job as a vocalist and I always deliver quality stems.

  33. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  34. A: One misconception is that I'm a singer/songwriter/topliner. I love doing all of that - AND - I also compose/orchestrate/produce music for ensembles including full orchestra and am classically trained.

  35. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  36. A: What is your deadline for your project? What's your inspiration for this song or project? Are there any references for how you want it to sound? How did you get into music?

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: My DAW is Logic Pro. I record with an Apollo Twin audio interface with 100's of plugins by Arturia, Waves, Soundtoys, Spitfire, and East West. Synths include a Juno 106, Korg Minilogue, and Poly800. I record vocals using a Rode NT1-A.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: Artists I'm inspired by: Prince, Daft Punk, Madonna, Grimes, Bjork, and Tove Lo - for their voices, music production, songwriting skills, and creative vision. Composers I'm inspired by: Hans Zimmer, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Vangelis, and Disasterpeace - for having total mastery of their craft and unique voices in scoring film and video games. I'm also inspired by producers Ian Kirkpatrick (Dua Lipa), Mark Ronson, and Yaeji.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I topline (write melody and lyrics) on tracks that are already produced, as well as collaborate on songs that need a co-writer and producer. I also compose music start to finish for visual media including ads, TV shows, and films.
