Jeffrey is one of the best singers I've worked with and, frankly, ever heard. Very professional, talented and a great person. I'm glad to have met and worked with him.
Jeff has an undeniable ability to bring a raw and authentic soulful sound to many different musical settings. Whether it's writing in a room or performing live he always brings genuine passion to the project or gig. I have worked extensively with Jeff so I know first hand, he is a special cat.
Jeff brings an incredibly unique experience to everything he does. He is an incredibly talented singer, the kind that makes you stop in your tracks. And he pairs that with his amazing writing sensibilities. Working with Jeff is always a pleasure, never a bad day.
I've worked with Jeff for years now and he is consistently the most loved vocalist that any of my friends/famliy hear. He's a super fast learner and can adapt to your style in no time. You will absolutely love working with him.
Jeff is an incredible vocalist and songwriter. His instincts are great and you will not be let down working with him.
Jeff is one of the best male vocalists and writers that I know.
Interview with Jeffrey G
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: A project I am particularly proud of is writing "Give Love" by Andy Grammer. It was born out such a raw and real experience. I started the idea for myself. It really connected with Andy. He had lost his mother to cancer years prior. The message of the song perfectly articulated what his mother stood for. It ended up doing very well at radio. I ultimately think it was because it was rooted in such truth.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently working on my next full length album, as well as writing for other artists and DJs.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: JT Roach. One of the best singer/songwriter/producers I have ever worked with.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I love analog. Its warm and classic.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to put my heart and soul into your project and deliver something that we are both extremely proud of....no matter how many times that takes.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating every single day and emotionally connecting with people all over the world.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How do you find your own unique artistry? Create constantly with no external factors in mind. PLAY!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That you cant be successful in music unless you are topping the radio charts. That you dont have to sound like anyone else...you're the only one that can do what you do. Refine and refine that special ingredient.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Why are you doing this? What do you to feel? What do you want your listener to feel?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: The more specific you can be in terms of feel the quicker and better I will be able to do my job!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Acoustic Guitar, Sure SM7B, UA Apollo Twin, Macbook, solar power generator.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I didn't figure out I could sing and write music until I was in my early 20's. I was scared that I couldn't make an honest living on music alone...so I ended up in the corporate world. Management consulting to be exact. It wasn't until I was making a good living that i realized the pure importance of passion and loving what you do on a day to day basis. I ended up recording my first album and putting on Pandora. I was blown away when it got 30 million streams its first year. That led me to writing for other people and really honing in on my songwriting. I have been at this music game full time for about 10 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Soulful gritty & emotional.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Labrinth. He brings such unique hooks to every aspect of a song in a fresh yet familiar way.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Singer-songwriter, R&B/Soul, EDM
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is bringing the feel and soul across the board; vocal, melody, lyric.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring soulful melodies rooted in emotion and feel with an interesting conversational lyric with a poetic twist.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually start with a melody. From there I try and tap into my own experience to draw an interesting and compelling lyric. For me its all about the FEEL!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I'm a UA guy. I run my SM7B & Nuemann U87 through my UA 1676 for a rich vocal chain. I have several different guitars that I love: Gibson J45, B25, Fender Strat & P bass. For keys love my 1970's Wurlitzer 200A and my 1957 Baldwin upright.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Allen Stone, Labrinth, Jon Bellion, Jason Evigan, Leon Bridges, John Mayer, Jason Isbell, Leif vollebekk, Rag-n-Bone Man, Jacob Collier, Bon Iver
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: adding a soulful vocal and writing lyric and topline.
