Hey, I'm Marcus - a Swedish-American composer and multi-instrumentalist based between Stockholm, London, and LA. I am stylistically versatile, creating anything from pop and r&b to experimental electronic music. I have worked with many critically acclaimed artists such as Iggy Azalea, Camila Cabello, and Kid Ink.
I began my career in film music in LA, working as an intern for music supervisor and composer Brian Reitzell (The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, The Bling Ring), and then a musical assistant to director Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight, Lords of Dogtown, 13), helping her plan and realise the sonic worlds of various projects. During my collaboration with Hardwicke, I worked with musical legends like songwriter Diane Warren and producer Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire, Gang of Four). After relocating to Sweden, I was awarded a composition fellowship and focused primarily on developing my craft as a songwriter, writing songs for artists like Kid Ink, SOPHIE, Camilla Cabello, Iggy Azalea, Icona Pop, Astrid S, Shy Martin, bulow, etc.
Services I can provide include
- Full production, starting a track from scratch
- Additional production and mixing
- Vocal comping and tuning
- Guitar and piano
- Top lining (writing a melody and lyric for a track you already have)
I am very quick and can turn around a full production in a few days if need be. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have and I look forward to collaborating with you :)

Loved working with Marcus! Has helped me with some guitars and topline melodies. Super talented and overall great guy, would definitely recommend!
I've had the pleasure of working with Marcus a few times and from the first session it was evident not only that Marcus was a top musician and writer, but was also a top man!
Our sessions are always a laugh and Marcus has a ridiculously wide range of talents than he can use in his writing and production, if you work with him you will see what i mean!!!
Cannot speak highly enough of this dude!
Marcus is super easy going and amazing to work with. You Always walk away with someting special. If you get the chance to work with him, do it! For your sake!
Marcus is one of the most talented songwriter/producers I've ever worked with. He has a great vibe and really focuses on getting the best song. He lives and breathes music and is a fully-fledged multi-instrumentalist.
Marcus is one of the hardest working, most talented musicians I have ever met. He is extremely versatile and capable of achieving excellence in many different genres, as well as having a multitude of skills including being an extremely talented guitarist and having a great ear for harmony and melody. His productions have the polished, american sound I was looking for when I first started working with him, and he's also really easy to work with which helps!!
Love working with Marcus ! Highly recommend and super talented !!
Interview with Ängelsson
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Dark, left-of-center pop, sad trap, or urban pop.. those are my favorites. I've done plenty of EDM tracks and more straightforward pop as well.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Compose with music videos or films in the background.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Ableton --> Logic
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mainly production, but I'm also brought in a lot on lyric/concept work as well as song arrangement.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Developing artists, pitching songs, composing for TV/Film
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital - more control. Analog on vocals if the gear is at a high enough standard. Also analog for sound coloring if the track demands it.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Finding new moods everyday - it's like one of those video game world maps that gets revealed as you wander.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Clear communication, fun, flexibility, and a high quality song. I want the process to be inspiring and enjoyable for the client -- and I want the end result to be as close to their vision as possible!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Swae Lee because his melodic sense is so unique - love his timing in "Unforgettable" and the vibe of the chorus on "Sunflower." Second place would be Lorde, because she's incredibly poppy but also dark/experimental.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Production needs to put you in a world. If there's no defined mood in the instrumental, it's not going to make the listener feel anything, so I focus on creating a distinct emotion in the track. Also, I keep the music contained to the necessary elements -- I don't like when a track gets cluttered!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Max Martin, SOPHIE, Lil Peep, Travis Scott, Miley Cyrus, Mark Ronson, Lorde, Kim Petras, M83, Sigur Ros, Nirvana
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Myah Marie! Incredible writer and vocalist.
