Interview with Bamrock Entertainment
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: As stated earlier, P.O.D.'s Satellite was an incredible experience and I was a Pro Tools engineer but everyone on our staff has worked on several amazing projects like
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. We don't want to limit ourselves or our clients in the creative process and as a facility that deals mostly with a modern production approach it is our jobs to be current with cutting edge sounds and production tools. We are younger people also, and that is what we were raised on. That said, we love the sound of real analog gear and getting our hands on classic eq's, compressors and preamps.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Our promise is 100% satisfaction always. If it isn't right then we dedicate ourselves to making it right. Always, every time. Period. This philosophy has worked for us so far and we intend to stand behind that as a business model.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The freedom to create and have a connection with clients and other musicians. If you've never experienced that feeling then it's hard to describe it to someone but there is an amazing bond and an otherworldly feeling that comes when you take music to another level. Unspoken magic that is a bond for life. Some of our closest friends have been made from strangers that we connected with on a very deep level.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Our customers tend to want to know "what are some of our latest works or who have you done that I've heard of before?" Our answers are to play them some mixes in the studio and we tell them about working on alums like P.O.D.'s Satellite that sold 6 million copies and was nominated for Grammys or the fact that we are on the Grammy ballot this year in 3 different categories for a record we produced.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that the studio is a 24/7 party when in fact we only focus on delivering hi quality products that make our clients happy so that they can tell their fans/friends that we deliver a great product.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: We strive to get to the root of the clients needs so the 20 questions approach always gets to the point and leads to a happy client. Questions like what is your goal with your music? Who are your influences? What are your favorite sounding albums? Questions the get people excited and talking about what inspires them to even want to make a record in the first place.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Shop around until you find the team that makes you feel really good. If the feeling isn't there immediately then it might not ever be there and when creating music the "vibe" is ultimately important. Any bad vibes can waste important time
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Gear doesn't work on island. Bring your acoustic guitar, a way to start a fire, a notebook, pencils and a pencil sharpener and you'll be happy.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: All of the members of our team have been or currently are successful musicians and touring professionals. We understand from the ground up what every band or musician needs to be successful in this day and age.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Modern and huge is the basis of our music production style. We labor over our mixes and productions until they are able to compete on a world class level. That is what we believe to be what sets us apart from all others in our area as well as the world. If our final product isn't what we would call AMAZING, then it isn't done. So far, our results have lived up to our personal goals.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Max Marin is our number one guy because he is the epitome of amazing song writing and super modern, giant sounding records that have changed the world over the last 15 or so years. If you look at the top of the music charts you'll always see his name.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The number one tip we could share is all production starts with the song first and foremost. Focus on the song and you can't go wrong.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Our primary focus is on modern music from pop and radio to hip hop, active rock and metal. There really is no limit but we like to work on what we listen to and what we play as musicians.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: We shine in every part of the process. The fact that we work as a team makes it so every persons strong suit takes the lead on any given part of the process. Our best mixers do the mixing, our strongest song writers do the writing and all of our engineers are highly capable of making huge sounding records.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: All of our engineers and producers are focused on the song. From the ground up we work the hooks until you can't get them out of your head. Hooks, hooks, hooks. That is the name of the game.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Our typical work process is different for every band or musician. If we have band that lives in the performance world then we focus on getting the band in a completely comfortable set up and tracking them until all involved are 100% happy but in this modern world of recording we find ourselves recording individuals and focusing on each instrument one part at a time to ensure absolute quality through the whole process. Either way, it's up to our clients and what makes them comfortable.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Our studio is client based and with a modern edge. We are an in the box facility that utilizes our amazing live room. We don't have the classic old school 100 input SSL mixer but what we do have is Pro Tools HD with all of the industry standard plug ins from top brands as well as high quality mic preamps such as Avalon 737's, Focusrite and API. Our client lounge is setup to give our guests total piece of mind and a place away from home to get business done.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: We as a team are inspired by creative people on all levels from modern producers like Max Martin, Alex Da Kid and Dr. Luke that are cutting edge sound designers and all the way back to classic genius's of sound like Rick Rubin, Quincy Jones and Sir George Martin. We are music people who live to create music that will inspire the future musicians and writers of tomorrow.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: World class music production that is 100% based around the clients needs with an emphasis on a modern approach to music. Our goal is to always expand upon the clients ideas and sound in all ways and we aren't happy until our artists are completely satisfied.
