Interview with Max McFerren
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is a software/hardware hybrid. I sequence in Ableton Live, and I use a number of of outboard techniques, including reamping, and tape saturations. I then finish back in the box.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by savants like Prince who play all their own instruments, and even lesser known geniuses like James Mason.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: At the moment I'm mainly mixing raw dance tracks. The goal is to keep much of the raw character as these tracks mostly come from hardware productions, but to have as much impact on large sound systems as possible. I'm also beginning to find more contract work for game audio and sound design projects.
