In 1995 I created a professional studio facility in the Stellenbosch Wine-lands, Cape Town, South Africa. Sunset Recording Studios has gained local and international recognition for it's amazing vibe, relaxed setting, acoustics and equipment. In 2018 we launched the new residential studio complex coupled with onsite guest villas on a private game estate.

Endorse Jurgen von WechmarAbsolute pleasure to work with Jürgen. Have done various projects through the years at Sunset Recording Studios, and all turned out great. Top class mixing engineer and producer.
Jürgen is an awesome engineer to work with. Everything was ready BEFORE I arrived and the engineering never got in the way of me playing (believe me, that almost never happens). He is solid, experienced and will make a great record. As a producer, he knows how to draw out the best in an artist. What more can I say...
Interview with Jurgen von Wechmar
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Every project is important to that specific client. They spend their hard earned money to get their music out there and I respect that dearly. Seeing a client smile and have success with something I was able to contribute to, is my proudest moments. Life is longer that only one project...
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, analog for tracking and digital for mixing. I come from an analog era (1990's) but I can do so much more in the digital realm and revisions are a breeze.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will always give you my best!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The creative process and seeing an idea shape into a valuable result.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can we make the deadline? - Yes we can!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Whats is your end goal with your music?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Follow your instincts. Your heart will always lead you in the right direction.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: sunscreen!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Since I remember I always liked playing music and fiddling with gear. I studied electronic and electrical engineering, but after receiving my degree in 1995, I jumped right into building a studio and do what I love most - music!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I have the respect and intuition to get along with all my clients and building a solid partnership with their music. My clients end up becoming dear friends to me.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Serve the song!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work across all genres. I specialise in live recordings with bands and session musicians. Over the years I have gained lots of traction in mixing projects and singles recorded in studios from all around the world. I get exited by great songs, regardless of the genre, and the challenges and creative opportunity they present.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: To serve the song/music and make it the best it can possibly be.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My experience, uncluttered palette, objectivity and just a solid gut feel of what will work best.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I run a full fledged professional recording studio geared for live band recordings. I am currently building a new studio due to be completed in June 2018, that will cater for bands, artists and musicians from all over the world. They main aim is to create a creative 'womb' where artists will be inspired to create great work.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Great songwriting, good music and well crafted productions! There are so many around that I'm inspired by all who achieve this.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am a producer and recording & mix engineer.
