American record mixer focused on delivering competitive, timeless sonics.
Hey there, my name is Bobby. I work in a 600 square foot studio behind my house here in Nashville, TN. With nearly a decade's worth of experience in music engineering, I like to tell people that my gift is turning songs into records. Above all, I pride myself on my communication with clients, making sure that their needs are understood through every step.
While my main focus is modern music, I've also worked a bit in podcasts & video, and am capable of other miscellaneous audio mixing & editing tasks. Feel free to reach out if you have a specific need I can help you with.

Endorse Bobby KnepperBobby is a truly special engineer, producer, and musician. He brings intention and creativity to everything he touches, and creates an environment of trust and respect in his studio. He's a Renaissance man in his talents across many fields -- songwriting, arrangement and production, the finer science of mixing and engineering, overall musicianship (including playing guitar, bass, piano, pedal steel, various synths, and surely more...), not to mention analog videography and live performance recording.
His space is also a mega vibe. Funky furniture and analog gear and plants galore.
Working with Bobby is a true game-changer. Whether it's start-to-finish full track creation or polishing up something you've had on your hard drive for years... It's like calling in the closing pitcher for a baseball game — this guy knows exactly what the song needs to turn it into a RECORD and get it across the finish line. Incredible attention to detail and vibes in the studio are unmatched - I’ve worked with him on multiple tracks, and hope to work with him for many more!
The times I've worked with Bobby are the times when I am most confident that the music we are making is well written and well mixed. He brings a passion for music making and performance capture that I haven't seen in my 12 years of being a producer and writer. His studio exudes a safe, creative environment and I can't wait to work with him again.
I have worked with Bobby both as a producer and a mix engineer. Incredibly skilled at his craft but also efficient. Have only ever gotten amazing results when working with him.
Bobby just finished mixing two songs for me with the exact intention, nuance, and musicality that I was looking for. He has an amazing ear across genres and is extremely professional and easy to work with. Legendary.

Interview with Bobby Knepper
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog tools for creating, digital tools for finishing.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Mixing very rarely will change your mind about the song - it can only elevate it. I want to be sure that you are already loving the song as a whole before we start our process together.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are your expectations for a mixer? What do you like about this song? Who have you been listening to lately?
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in a 600 square foot additional unit behind my house that is professionally treated and designed by Gerhard Westphalen. I work on midfield PMC MB2 speakers, which are state of the art and will be with me until I retire. I have a small but useful selection of outboard gear that includes 3 compressors and a TEAC tape machine. I also reference my mixes on NS-10's and Auratone 5c Cubes. Surrounding me in this space is also a collection of funky furniture for any visitors, a few vintage keyboards and guitars for my creative endeavors, and an extensive coffee bar for my caffeine addiction.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I love Shawn Everett's creative spirit and drive to capture or create unique sounds through analog gear.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I take a song from 90% to 100%. Often this means bringing the stems into my mixing template and beginning my process, but other times it means *reducing* the amount of processing that's happening, and chiseling away to help the recording shine through. Of course, I also do any editing, tuning, or other cleanup that I see fit.
