Interview with NeilT Music Studios
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Never follow the crowd, strive to be different
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip Hop, House, Jazz, Pop, RnB, Afropop and Trap
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing, Mastering, Vocal Editing, Music Production and Vocal Production
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I mixed and mastered "DJ Ghanyana - House Grooves 10" which did extremely well. Each track has an average of 80 stems, which i managed to get sounding so clean.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: working on singles for a label called "Skhanda World" owned by K.O "Mr CashTime" who is a very well known artist.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: not at the moment
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: i have a mix of both. I prefer a analog eq and compressor chain on my 2 buss to get that warm analog sound and glue for mastering. Mixing i prefer in the box with high end plug-ins. Because i do so much work, this process works great for Recalls.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I always try my utmost to make your song sound "great" even if your new to recording or you don't have the best studio environment. I always make things work.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Love turning a ruff product into a broadcast ready song and mostly the clients response.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: we just make the song louder, anyone can do that. Way more complicated then that
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: A number of questions to help clients fault check files before they are sent to me. i.e Sample Rate, Master channel processing management, Gain, FX management etc.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: do your research by listening to a number of previous tracks before and after and ask for references.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: my monitors, uad card, microphone, pre-amp and headphones
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been in the music industry for around 18 years, with 6 years as my sole source of income. I started in a small room in an apartment and now own two world class quality studios.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: "Simplicity is key"
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: My ultimate artist would be "Pharrel", just love the way he thinks
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I have a strong passion for Mixing and Mastering and have excelled to work with some of the biggest name in our industry.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: With my many years of musical instrumentation experience, it gives me the edge over most mix/master engineers as i have a deeper understanding of what the song needs for the production to shine without ruining the flow of things.

A: My room was built to an american standard producing amazing sound quality for mixing and mastering. I have married great hardware and software for optimal workflow and sound.
