During my over 25 year musical career, I've never shied away from a musical challenge, which is one of the reasons I picked up the steel guitar in the first place. Through the decades, I have been rewarded to work along side a wide variety of artists and production teams, that include performance credits ranging from THE STONE (NYC), to THE GRAND OLE OPRY (Nashville) to THE TONIGHT SHOW (NBC) on television. Not to mention, just about every dive bar in between...Its been a great ride!
In the studio, I have tracked with Grammy Award winning producers, artists and hobbyists alike. This has allowed me to be involved with a broad range of musical recordings; including soundtracks (HBO, Netflix, PBS), jingle work, children's music, songwriter, country, swing, modern jazz, folk, blues, gospel, hip-hop and indie-rock. When not working in the studio, I am excited to be working on the road with the Grammy nominated group Midland.
I am always open to your ideas and want to provide the best tracks possible for your project. I look forward hearing what you have!

Philip did a fantastic job with my track. He was responsive to feedback and delivered takes that were easy to work with, and I was able to easily get a performance that really enhanced my track.
It is definitely worth working with Philip if you are looking for a pedal steel guitar to enhance your track!

Philip provided me with an excellent pedal steel part - couldn't be happier with how it came out! Highly recommend.

Philip’s such a great creative partner - really dug into the songs I sent and came up with unique pedal steel parts for each, from beautiful washy noise to classic country licks. Tone for days and he worked really fast, too! Hope to do lots more with him, and would definitely recommend him to anyone.

I am super happy I chose Phillip. He has proven to be a great professional, and is already in my portfolio of musicians. he has finished his job with an exceptional talent. Thank you Phillip !!
Phil is the consummate professional. Highly creative, intuitive, and experienced. Fantastic tone, rhythm and feel. If you need pedal steel look no further!
I have been working with Philip since 2013. Whether he's in a live-band tracking situation, flying in overdubs from his home studio, or performing on-stage, Philip always delivers professional results with his tasteful playing and smooth tone. I've seen him do everything from ethereal psych-rock jams to classic country and nail it every time. Great hang too!
Philip is incredibly versatile, musical, and one of the nicest, easiest people to work with. We’ve worked on countless projects together and he never ceases to amaze me. The only way you can go wrong is by not hiring him.
Philip is one of the best musicians I've had the pleasure of working with. Hire him!
Interview with Philip Sterk
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work I get is for overdubs. Often times, my steel is one of the last parts that get added. So, I get the challenge of “finding my place” in the song. Often weaving in and out and “filling the gaps”. Or sometimes, it’s just about creating another layer “color”. That may be all the track needs to lift it all up to another level.
I was the EVERYTHING in this production
- Pedal SteelAverage price - $150 per song
I provide 2 WAV files per session for variety and mix/edit options. If more is needed, we can renegotiate price. Typical 2 day turnaround, rarely never longer than a week, pending scheduling.
