I started Peace of Eden Recording Studio in 1998 on my farm in the countryside of the Garden Route, South Africa. Its a digital and analogue project facility with lots of vintage gear and accommodation is part of the deal. I have recorded and produced over sixty albums in many genres. I was nominated Best South African Recording Engineer in 2010.
Essentially Peace of Eden is a creative vacational (as in holiday) space where you can track without distractions or interruptions, and there's no rush - work any time of the day or night you like. You can take time to experiment with a myriad of vintage, analogue and digital gear and make a record that's an epic experience. And its more than just a project recording studio and lodge on the edge of verdant forests, I master and ISRC encode in-house, provide ADR services to film and media and offer demo, pre-production and rehearsal facilities at attractive rates.
My speciality is acoustic productions, folk-rock, finger-style anything and generally using microphones creatively - samples have their place but I try and source them from the projects I'm working on. An affable environment always gets the best out of anyone and that's central to our vibe here. We are in a rural area with a patchwork of lakes, massive forests and unspoiled beaches that go on for miles. Wildlife abounds in the forests nearby including elephants and leopards. I always try and allocate some time for my foreign clients to see something of the bushveld and wildlife while they are here in Africa so often I build in a little safari R&R, it helps that I'm also an experienced bush pilot and certified nature tour guide.
