Howard Butcher - Peace of Eden

Producer, Recording Engineer

Howard Butcher - Peace of Eden on SoundBetter

I started Peace of Eden Recording Studio in 1998 on my farm in the countryside of the Garden Route, South Africa. Its a digital and analogue project facility with lots of vintage gear and accommodation is part of the deal. I have recorded and produced over sixty albums in many genres. I was nominated Best South African Recording Engineer in 2010.

Essentially Peace of Eden is a creative vacational (as in holiday) space where you can track without distractions or interruptions, and there's no rush - work any time of the day or night you like. You can take time to experiment with a myriad of vintage, analogue and digital gear and make a record that's an epic experience. And its more than just a project recording studio and lodge on the edge of verdant forests, I master and ISRC encode in-house, provide ADR services to film and media and offer demo, pre-production and rehearsal facilities at attractive rates.

My speciality is acoustic productions, folk-rock, finger-style anything and generally using microphones creatively - samples have their place but I try and source them from the projects I'm working on. An affable environment always gets the best out of anyone and that's central to our vibe here. We are in a rural area with a patchwork of lakes, massive forests and unspoiled beaches that go on for miles. Wildlife abounds in the forests nearby including elephants and leopards. I always try and allocate some time for my foreign clients to see something of the bushveld and wildlife while they are here in Africa so often I build in a little safari R&R, it helps that I'm also an experienced bush pilot and certified nature tour guide.

Contact me through the green button above and let's get to work.

  • The making of Dan Patlansky's Wooden Thoughts album.May 23, 2015

Here's an interesting clip about the making of Dan Patlansky's acoustic album 'Wooden Thoughts' that was rated 13 by Blues Rock Review in 2014. It illustrates my studio setting in South Africa and the relaxed vibe we have based in a rural setting. You can preview the album on my studio site here.
