I am a composer, producer, and keyboardist. I have written for a variety of musical styles and forms, such as for theater and dance, film, animation, and jazz performance. I am also experienced in sound design, mixing, arranging/orchestration, and live sound, amongst other things.
I am a composer with a background in Carnatic (Indian classical) music and jazz piano. I like branching out on my musical abilities and inspirations and have written and collaborated on music in many genres, namely funk, jazz, alternative, film, orchestral, electronic, rock, string quartet, dance, r&b, blues, pop, theater, reggae, and others. In the business of musical creation, it helps to have many influences and learn how different types of musical forms and styles convey similar messages or portray different cultures and come to represent different memories to each of us. This is why I write music, and I go to great lengths to get that quality, emotion, and timelessness out of each production I take on.

Interview with Aashray Harishankar
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I take pride in my ability to see the heart of emotion in a piece of music and bring a wide variety of influences that will help it standout musically
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I am all about organization, and so the easier it is to read and look at, the easier it is to work with. I generally begin with the essentials of a song and build from there, but with each collaboration and project it is often different, and I don't necessarily go off of any templates (for better or worse).
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I currently work off of my Macbook for optimal portability, but mainly work out of my home studio where I own a pair of Yamaha HS7 speakers and have both my keyboards--a Korg M50 and a ROLI Seaboard--both of which I use to perform quite often. I use Ableton and Pro Tools mainly but will be obtaining Logic very soon to work on new projects.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am inspired by the work Brian Eno has done in ambient music, as well as with artists such as Coldplay. Another figure I look up to is Quincy Jones, who has been the man behind so many of the artists we listen to and helped them mature as musicians and artists, producing a lot of great stuff himself as well. I love many genres of music, and am inspired recently by the work of Kevin Parker of Tame Impala and Jacob Collier for their ability to produce everything themselves.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am mainly a composer and producer, creating music and sound for use in media and collaborating with other artists to produce their work.
