Isaac Lucas on SoundBetter

Highly experienced and versatile rapper/songwriter/topline artist/feature performer to help realize your musical vision and/or add a unique style to your project. I excel in Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop but have experience in all genres.

I have been writing and recording professionally for several years. I have released numerous records of original material with varying purposes including songs for recording artists, music for film/TV, and theme songs for restaurants & businesses. As a lyricist, melody writer, ghostwriter and vocalist, I have collaborated with numerous clients to bring their visions to life. Based in Los Angeles, I have received placements with several TV shows and Films including Crazy Rich Asians, Shameless, Marvels Runaways, Animal Kingdom, Black-ish, and several others and worked with multiple Grammy-winners including James Fauntleroy and Rodney Jerkins.

I offer industry-quality writing (rap lyrics, melodies, toplines, vocal features), and session arrangement when necessary. I did the writing for all of my samples, and if you need a rap verse/feature I got bars. I promise.)

I hired Isaac for Hip Hop vocals. He showed interest for the track from the beginning of the process. Not only he got the vibe right, but his interpretation also pushed the track even further than I expected.
Thanks to his vocals the project took another dimension. Very pro and easy to deal with. Highly recommended.

I hired Isaac to do rap vocals on a track. He delivered a great record with an insanely quick turnaround! Quickest of all my projects so far. Definitely a plus if you're working on a time crunch. He has a friendly, professional demeanor, really listened to my input, and delivered on my requests for tweaks. In other words, if you ask for a laid back vibe he'll give you that. If you request for high energy and aggression he'll deliver that. And he can find the in betweens too. Thanks, Isaac!

So great to work with! Isaac is a true professional and a very talented rapper. I sent him a beat and he recorded two verses and a hook over it for me. Top quality, great sound, awesome flow, and all around he's very easy to work with.

I definitely look forwards to working with Isaac again on future tracks.

Interview with Isaac Lucas

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I recently wrote a song for the movie Crazy Rich Asians that was performed by the artist/actress Awkwafina during the end credits of the film. It was my first placement in a feature film and the entire experience from writing it to hearing it in the theater was amazing.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Projects for several artists, films & TV shows

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I love what I do and every project I'm a part of will receive my best effort, and you will be very pleased with the sound of the final product.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Creative freedom to write what I like with the confidence the client will be satisfied.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: Rap verses are only for hip-hop songs, or there are certain styles or topics that aren't suitable for rap lyrics. Hip Hop is the new Pop these days and can be as versatile as you want to make it. Rap on a country song if you want, or sing a ballad over a trap beat. If it sounds good who cares?

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Make sure you find someone that will work with you to bring YOUR vision to life and customize their sound to fit what you're looking for, not the other way around.

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: Piano/Keyboard, Laptop, OP-1, Bottomless box of cheezits and a Jukebox/record player.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: Songwriting for artists, film and television, as well as performing. Been at it for 6 years.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: Anderson .Paak or Childish Gambino because they are both amazing and versatile artists.

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Be unique, not only in how you put sounds together, but in the sounds you use to begin with.

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: Versatility and creativity. I pride myself on being able to write lyrics for most genres, and when I comes to Hip Hop, tailoring lyrics to fit the topic of the song while incorporating unique flows and metaphors.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: A unique vocal sound/melodies, topical lyrics, professional quality & focused delivery.

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: With clients I will establish what the goal/direction of the song is, determine what is needed to complete the song/vision and bring it to professional standards, and write/perform what is needed wether it be a hook, verse, entire song, or arrangement.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: Childish Gambino Pharrell Anderson .Paak Chance The Rapper Travis Scott Calvin Harris J. Cole Outkast Erykah Badu Logic Frank Ocean Bruno Mars

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: Writing and/or performing original rap verses & hooks for Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop songs Writing and/or performing original melodic verses for Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop songs Songwriting/Toplining/Ghostwriting Vocal recording of pre-written lyrics for Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop songs (demo purposes)

  36. A: What is your objective/intention with the song? If i do a rap feature how many times do you want to go "OH SHIT!"? (Maximum capped at lines per verse, i.e. 16 bar verse = 16 "oh shit"'s).
