Jacob Christofer Andersson on SoundBetter

I mix music. Independent and label releases in different genres. Most often with a focus on vocals and a clear, organic sound. Solid impact and detailed excitement, enhancing the feelings of each song.

I'm a Swedish mixing and recording engineer based in central Gothenburg. I specialize in mixing music and have a solid music background including fifteen years' professional experience with music recording and a BA in Music and Sound Engineering from Rhythmic Music Conservatory, Copenhagen. My mixing credits includes gold certified and Danish Music Award winning releases.

Whether you are an independent artist, in a band or represent a record label, I would love to hear from you. No project is to big or small. Let me in on your vibe and visions for the song(s) or album - new music and big ambitions inspire me. Let's take your music to another level together!

Interview with Jacob Christofer Andersson

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Both! Having mixed records on big format SSL consoles as well as in the box, I must admit I prefer a hybrid system with a mix (pardon the pun) of bold high-end analogue outboard and pristine digital equipment. For me, it is the perfect combination of big analogue sonics and a quick, creative workflow.

  3. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  4. A: My mix room has an amazing professional acoustics built around my favourite full-range monitoring system and hybrid mixing setup. Boutique analog outboard equipment, state-of-the-art analogue/digital conversion and studio standard software and plugins. Non the less, no matter how much I love my amazing analogue and digital gear, it isn't only what gear we use, but what we do with it, that sets the sonics of a recording.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Don't be afraid to let go of your music. Let others take over while it is still fresh and alive, and your ears and ideas are still focused on the feelings and emotions in a song. The end result will be better and get there quicker, meanwhile you are already working on the next hit .

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: In my own words I'd describe it as a clear, organic sound with solid impact and detailed excitement, enhancing the feelings of each song. Clients often comment that they "can hear everything" and how well the vocals sit in the mix. To me, this isn't only about the sound of the vocal itself (or be it anything in the mix, really), but also about creating a space and focus for it.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Every mix is a custom job and will have my full attention. No set-and-forget preset, no assistant mixes. I'm known for being very patient and I won't give up until I'm - and most importantly my clients - are happy with the mix.
