check_circleVerifiedFantastic! Everything you could want as a drummer: such an intuitive beat maker, hits are always clean, beautiful, & feel great. His compositions breath life into the song & radiate joy like the summer sun. The tone of his kit should not be underestimated. It’s obvious by the character of the sound that he is in intimate relationship with his instruments. Courteous and a pleasure to work with. My number one goal now is to send more songs to Itunu that he can add his musical magic to my recipes

Interview with Itunu Joe
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I played drums to Ascension by the Amazing Iros Young. I did the track in 45 minutes and it came out so beautiful. You can look it up on Youtube
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Quite a number of projects. I run a weekly drum cover on Youtube.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I am totally new here.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: That's a tough one. I play drums, so it's analog. But I love digital processing. I think it's potential is bigger.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to blow their minds at my first attempt!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the fact that I play at work, literally.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They ask, "Are you available?" I answer, "YES!!!"
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: A lot of people think that being expressive on the drums is the way, but in reality, the simpler the sweeter.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask them what they want to achieve with their sound. This leads to loads of other questions.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Please keep an open mind. You never know what the end would be sometimes. Let the music take the lead.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Bass drum, snare drum, Hihat, one mic and a pair of sunglasses. :)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been playing drums in churches and gigs for 15 years but only started freelancing 2 years ago.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A lot of my buyers say that I seem to speak with my drumming. They say it communicates with the music and also with the listener.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: You can never finish a song, there is always more to do.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I have worked on many genres over the past two years which I have worked freelance. This is because in freelancing, you expect sales from all over the world, so I have not limited myself to only one style. My core style is gospel but in my work I have recorded less gospel.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is in creating patterns. I can create so many patterns with little similarity.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring the taste. The right feel. I put the song in the right direction. Many of the times, I play the drums before other music is added.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I begin work after I have received information from the buyer. I listen to the original song to learn it and then I put my ideas to the table and play them. I do a rough mix to put my playing in proper perspective before I forward it as a demo to the buyer. If there are no revisions, I will go ahead and export the stems for the buyer.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup is pretty basic. I work full time as a freelancing musician, so I work from home. I have a pair of Behringer Truth Monitors. I have an array of Mics ranging from AKG, Bluebird, Blu Encore, Samson, Digital Refrence, Audix and Shure. I play PDP DW Concept Series Maple Drums, Black Panther Snare and Zildjian Cymbals.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Quite a lot of them. Calvin Rodgers is a phenomenal drummer. Jon Bellion may not be a drummer but his approach to music making makes me think nothing is impossible.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I record live drums for singles, EPs, albums and other projects.
