Interview with Clangor Studio
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The practice mix of Motörhead´s song "Electricity". That was a true legend coming out of my speakers and it was a pleasure to work on.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: We´ll try to bring up front the best from each song.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Properly check the sound of music done previously by the provider.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Probably some melodic metal and hard rock veterans. Because they simply rock even after the years! So inspiring.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Just restarted the studio in a new space. So some finishing touches still being done. However studio is fully operational.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Hook up a session, organize it properly to optimize the workflow, start mixing.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: We´re deeply inspired by heroes like Chris Lord-Alge, Michael Brauer, Andy Wallace and more.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog - the SOUND!! Digital - the convenience (ideally the healthy blend of both worlds)
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The joy I experience each time doing it. I really do enjoy it.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Neumann U87, PC, AD/DA, SSL console :P, good set of monitors.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Started as a stagehand, moved through dubbing recording engineer, through broadcasting industry at a local radio station. Besides all of this in my free time I educated (and keep educating) myself in the fields of music recording, mixing and mastering techniques. Whole process started approx. 6yrs ago (Filip)
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Our approach is using modern technologies yet trying to implement the old-day´s analog workflow and sound.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Be quick. Never spend too much time on one thing. The more you go around, the bigger chance to screw it up.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Live bands
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: There are others to judge :)
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A different set of ears allows us to possibly pull up interesting artifacts. Yet as the whole our goal is to help carry out the artist´s original ideas and meanings in a song.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Currently just a PC with brand new Cubase 9.5, some decent Focusrite interface and a vintage hardware reverb. In near-future-plan there are some vintage analog Pres and EQs and a STUDER master tape recorder.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: We specialise in mixing services of mostly rock&metal or any live played music genres.
