Interview with Clangor Studio
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Probably the proudest moment was when we finished our first album - "Beyond the Breaking Point" by "Breaking The Tarot". This was a milestone for our studio, as we only worked on singles and EP´s before. We produced, recorded, mixed and mastered the whole album. We did our best and we are proud of it. Of course, proud as of any other work we did :)
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both of those worlds have their pros and cons. Most valuable way is to combine sound characteristics of analog with convenience of digital. We live in a world where this is, fortunately, easily achievable.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To make their dreams and expectations come true :)
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Meeting and working with amazing musicians, very often young people. It always reminds us our own beginnings and put up a smile on our faces. It´s very inspiring. We always try to share our experience and help those young artists.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Communication is a key aspect of every cooperation. We love to discuss our client´s needs and expectations.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Started as a stagehand, moved through dubbing recording engineer, through broadcasting industry at a local radio station. Besides all of this in my free time I educated (and keep educating) myself in the fields of music recording, mixing and mastering techniques. (Filip)
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Our approach is using modern technologies yet trying to implement the old-day´s analog workflow and sound. We are always trying to achieve clarity, yet punch, energy, power and that famous "in-the-face" sound with rock/metal songs.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly local rock and metal bands. We do a lot of mixing and mastering, sometimes we even produce and record.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Probably to find a solution. Always :)
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A different set of ears allows us to possibly pull up interesting artifacts. Yet as a whole our goal is to help carry out the artist´s original ideas, meanings and feelings in a song.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: High gradfe PC running Cubase and carefully selected plugins. But don´t worry, we happily step out of the box into various analog devices - WA-76 compressor, or lgendary Lexicon PCM70 reverb. But our real gem among all of the machines are rare and unique TESLA pre´s and EQ´s called EVK326! Those sound lovely!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: We´re deeply inspired by heroes like Chris Lord-Alge or young talents like Joel Wanasek.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Probably some melodic metal and hard rock veterans. Because they simply rock even after the years! So inspiring.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Neumann U87, PC, AD/DA, SSL console :P, good set of monitors.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: We specialise in mixing services of mostly rock&metal or any live played music genres.
