I’ve worked with Darrell on multiple albums now. Before every session I always sit the artist/band down and tell them - "he's gonna do at least one thing today that will blow your mind." - and every-single-time, he does exactly that.
He's willing to go wherever the song leads. I've had him absolutely wreck sounds for me and I've had him get the most pure/natural tones. He can do it all. Some engineers/mixers are only as creative as the artist they're working with. Darrell is not that, what he is doing, is art.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Darrell for both the recording and mixing process of several projects.

All I can say is hes extremely professional. That means he’s fast, efficient, beyond proficient and experienced with all manner of setups.

Having that level of confidence in an engineer means you can dream it and make it real. That’s the alchemy you want!

As a mixer I’ve found him fast and badass.
He can nail a mix in the box or on a console.

Don’t hesitate. Darrell can do it all !!

My name is Michael Meisel and I'm a manager with Silva Artist Management.

I've worked with Darrell Thorp -- on projects for various clients including Beck, Foo Fighters, and Jenny Lewis -- for over 15 years. In addition to being a nice guy, his skills are excellent. In addition to all the work he does with my clients, I've referred him to several other projects over the years...and I always get thanked profusely for doing so.

I can recommend him without question.

    Best regards.

    Michael

Interview with Darrell Thorp

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: All the amazing projects I have been so honored to be apart of its one project that I am most proud of. Dead Snares "Speak the Language". I Co-Produced, Engineered and Mixed the album with my very good friend Jeffrey Cain. Jeffrey is one of the Best human beings on planet earth. I love to hang, create and laugh with him. Sonically its some of my best work, Musically its an amazing journey.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: HMMMMMM... I can't Say... AHHHH. This year has been a great year for me engineering and mixing some really cool projects BUT... I can't disclose the dirty details as it will ruin release plans.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: BOTH.... BOTH... Why not both. Printing mixes to half inch. Cutting basic tracks to 2inch 16 track then dumping to pro tools editing and overdubs. DONE... 15ips CCIR, 30 IPS AES its all fun. Both are such a great tool, we don't have to choose one over the other. Analog has a thing, digital has a thing. But with todays world of working you can utilize both on a project and achieve amazing results. AND ITS FUN!!!

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love to the freedom to create and be inspired by music. I get to work on really good songs all the time. So good they are stuck in my HEED for days on end. Its very rewarding to see a track that has not clarity or life become LIFE after a few hours of compression, eq, balance, effects.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What is your vision for you project ? Do you want me to try and mix the way IM inspired or is there a certain direction the artist is looking for ?

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Start with one song. See If you are both on the same page before committing to an entire album. I see allot of people hire someone and then realize a song or two into the project "this is not the right direction". And that can be taste or skill level but usually I feel its taste. Better to start out slow and
