Interview with Patrick Wörner

Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It's an exciting job because every project is different and there are always new creative challenges. I'm constantly learning from every new project and it goes without saying that it's great to be your own boss with all the freedom it brings.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I'm a 360 degree producer. That means I compose music, produce beats, arrange songs, record piano, acoustic & electric guitar, tune / edit / process vocals and mix & master my productions. Most clients reach out to me with some rough vocal ideas, melodies or recorded vocals either a cappella or with a backing track. My job is to produce a full custom-made radio ready song based on the ideas and visions of my clients.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'm a minimalist - particularly in music. I like it simple and transparent, no over-produced and stuffed productions. I put emphasis on quality of single elements and sounds in a track more than just trying to mask cheap sounding elements with other stuff.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm a very creative, communicative and patient guy. I work on a project until my clients are 100% satisfied.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It always begins with communicating with the artists to fully understand their vision of the style, sound and aesthetic for the production. Then I start working on a quick demo to discuss the different elements, so that I can produce a full arrangement of the song. After that it's fine tuning until the project is completed.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm a musician my whole life and never did anything else. I started as a guitar player and wrote songs since an early age. Later I got into music production and now I'm a full-time producer.

A: Give your ears a break from time to time and listen to reference tracks.

A: Pop, Indie Pop, Hip Hop, Electronic Music, Modern 80s
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My own sound aesthetic, creative ideas, custom made and well-wrought arrangements and my ability to translate my clients visions into musical reality.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have my own studio in Mannheim. I work with Ableton Live, play and record piano, synthesizer, acoustic & electric guitar and bass.

A: There are a lot - just to name a few: Rick Rubin, Pharrell, Max Martin, Josh Homme, Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, John Frusciante, Kanye West, J Dilla, Quincy Jones
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be specific and go into details about the project. Be sure about the style and general mood and try to communicate your vision as clear as possible - prepare a few appropriate reference tracks.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I write, produce and publish for the German female singer ninazo. Our tracks get regular air plays on big German radio stations and syncs in TV shows. ninazo gets featured on Spotify's New Music Friday and other editorial playlists.

A: Digital, because it's more versatile and practical.
