Working with Michal Nocny on my EP New Moon
Was a creative and visionary process. Michael will listen to all of you’re creative ideas and guide you into bringing your Vision to life! It is truly a process to work with Michael, however the end product is one of a kind and you will see your creative vision come to life if it is a process you are willing to trust. His production, engineering, mix/Master skills are out of this world and he is very professional, high level industry standard!!

I highly recommend working with Michael , especially if you have your own unique lane!

Michael’s understanding of music and energy puts him in a class by himself. I’ve worked with some of the most iconic producers and writers in the business and I can honestly say, Producers like him don’t come around very often. i’m Humbled to have met and worked with him.

*He’s gets to the core without being forceful
    Super patient *****
    *fast
The guy is not normal I can think of a few instances
Where I was left speechless at is sheer speed and brilliance. The guy is just unreal.

    Gentle, soul,strong,presence

Suuuuuper vibey producer. If you're looking to get a modern, sexy, dark, sound, then this is Michael's bread and butter. That's not to say he isn't capable of doing so much more.

Honestly, you're getting a massive steal from this guy, where else can you hire a producer that has gone #1 multiple times?

Interview with Michael Nocny

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I can't tell you but its a big one!

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Oh there are many producers, songwriters and top liners I would recommend in a heart beat. If I know I'm not feeling it I would always recommend someone who can do better than me.

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: I think I'm mostly proud of one particular song called "So Good" with an amazing polish singer Magdalena Tul. We recorded the song with Derrick McKenzie from Jamiroquai and incredible gospel choir, Sound'n'Grace. I co-wrote, arranged, fully produced and mixed the song. Also played most of instrument parts like guitars and keyboards. That was pure fun!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both actually, digital gives you speed and efficiency which is so important while creating but analog gives you all the feels, colors and flavors.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I always give my best. The word "almost" or "good enough" is not in my dictionary.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I get paid for playing. Pretty much. Most of the time.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: Let me put it this way, sometimes it's not about the music at all, or that snare sound or what mic to use. Sometimes it's just about the connection and support that record producer has to give the artist he works with. You may be the most talented producer in the world but if you lack interpersonal skills you are not going anywhere.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Please know where you are headed. Have a clear vision of what you want to achieve as an artist. Have an open mind. Every musical encounter could be an amazing inspiration if you allow it. Oh, and leave your ego at home.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: I just need one, fridge (full of beer)

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I started when I was 12 years old but very quickly got into it. Got my hands on the first DAW (Sonar Cakewalk) in the studio environment when I was 17. But that was just studying and having fun. I would say I've been doing this professionally for more than 11 years.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Hard to say really. I've been growing up listening to funky 80's and I love strong rhythms and beats but I also love moody film music. These two worlds are definitely present in my production.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Oh come on! It's too many! Can't choose. No it's Michael Jackson but...

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Don't be lazy.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: I would say it's mostly pop related genres. I love darker, underwater, moody synth sounds but since I moved to California I discovered live, minimal, country related genres and I absolutely love it. Also, love working with voices, choirs, a-capella groups. They just have one instrument, their voice, and it's incredible what they can do with it.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: I think it's synchronizing with artists in a creative process. Once I get an inspiration everything happens really fast. The goal is always to deliver the music quickly without overthinking stuff.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: Whatever the song needs. It's all about the song. Always.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: I can work with anything just to start with. Could be just a vocal loop, drum loop or a particular sound that I like. I spend a lot of time getting to know the artist's music taste to make sure we are on the same page.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I am lucky to be able to work at one of the most inspiring studios in Los Angeles. The Endeavor Studios. It's a brand new, beautifully designed facility where artists can feel free to create anything they want. My setup is hybrid. I use a lot of plugins and emulations but with analog summing while mixing or mastering.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: Every musical encounter is an inspiration. It's all about the right energy. There is nothing better than being synchronized in a creative process with an artist in the studio, exchanging ideas and forgetting about an outside world for a minute.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: Most of the time I'm asked to do a complete production from scratch to finish. whether it's a single, EP or the full length album. Co-writing or taking demo songs to the next level is the most common type of work.
