Interview with PAU

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm working on my artist project as well as climbing up the ranks as a writer. I'm paying my dues and working really hard- but I'm still young and I know I've got the tenacity to be up there with the Max Martins and Timbalands of the world... and I would love to take you with me.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Analog and digital. Analog for the feel, digital for the final touches.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: To always give my absolute best, and to always be honest and straightforward. If you purchase a larger package but I believe that the song should be simple and sweet, I'll keep it real with you-- even if I end up not making as much. Because in the end it's about making the best possible project, and that's what I have committed to you.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: That it chose me.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: I'd say just be clear in what you want. My ultimate goal at the end of this is to make you happy and make a great song in the process, so don't be shy about your goals and budget and we can work it all out!

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I moved to LA when I was 12 years old for my first record deal. Then of course every teenage girl gets her heart broken at 15 so I learned to cope by songwriting, I found myself on a little show called The Voice, and I kept writing and singing until one of my songs went platinum. I guess you just have to keep going and keep believing.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Know the rules, and know when to break them. Because if it feels good, that most likely means it IS good. So trust your gut. :)

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: People say I have a really great pop sensibility in my writing and deliver a "radio-ready" vocal.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: Honestly, I love to keep it fun and treat every song differently. To ensure that I never get into a repetitive workflow, I always try to do something different, whether that's starting from the chorus and then working my way back, or starting from the verse and seeing where the song leads me. Perhaps I'll write the lyrics first and then see where the emotion takes me. Sometimes I write all of the melodies, record them, and then take a notebook and pen out of the house and let daily life inspire the lyrics on the go. It's all about rediscovering your love of music every day. At least, for me it is. :)

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: GUYS I'm so excited about this. I don't mean to nerd out but I really do. I just purchased an API Lunchbox, which means I'll have access to the analog hardware that many professionals keep in the recording studio! Gone are the days of layering on plugin after plugin that "simulates" the hardware- I've got the real stuff now. I also purchased an Apollo Twin Duo, which allows me to run the built in software through my vocal, so no more crashing, more recording, and more efficiency for you! Lastly, I got a Kaotica Eyeball for my microphone, which will provide a really crisp, isolated vocal for you to play with and treat however you'd like!! That's right. Truly clean vocals. Ahh! I'm so excited to play with all of this stuff for you guys!!!

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: Timberlake and Timbaland. The OG dynamic duo- the ones I look to for inspiration every day.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: I try my absolute best to identify my clients' needs. I have a breakdown of every small level of work I can think of so that they don't feel like they're overpaying for their needs. I totally get that the music industry is tough, and we're all in it together. So I always try my best to identify their needs and wants and come up with a solution that's mutually beneficial for everyone involved.
