    Simple review:
It doesn't get better than Paperwings.

    Elaborate Review:
From their profile samples, I could tell these guy were true pros. After receiving their work on my project and noticing the DETAILS they incorporated, it had me speechless! They went above and beyond. I spiritually feel grateful to have found them and I WILL work with them again. Communication, mindfulness, and execution was 10/10 stars.

Super creative, he brought the track personality out in a way I couldnt even imagine myself, super talented, quick and patient when I wanted to try different things. Would work with him again for sure. Amazing job.

This dude is one of a kind. A real jack of all trade's who is actually GREAT at all of the trades he practices! Love his juicy guitar licks on any record, and he's always got top-notch drums and bass. A fun and energetic collaborator!

Interview with Derek of Byegone

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: I will do everything I can to help bring your project to where you are happy with it!

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: Don't be afraid to ask questions to ensure you are hiring the right provider for your project. Just because someone has a lot of credits, streams, or experience does not mean their work is the right fit for your particular project. I have no problem telling someone I'm not right for their project, as long as I know enough about their expectations to determine that. The worst is working on something that I'm struggling with because it's not my expertise, and the client ends up with a project they're unhappy with.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I've been playing instruments since 1998, starting with the piano and then later guitar, drums, and saxophone. After moving to LA in 2015 to pursue music, I eventually became an instructor at Icon Collective while continuing to grow my personal musical pursuits. I've been making music professionally, both for my personal projects and for commercial and other projects since 2018.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: I wouldn't say I have the specific goal to work with any particular artists. I more value gaining the attention of some of my favorite artists or composers, whether we collaborate or not. Most notably, my project Byegone has the attention of San Holo and all of bitbird, which has been so cool to hear everyone over there loving our tunes.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Work with what you know, especially when you're new and learning a lot of information about making music.. So many new producers overcomplicate a song with too many sounds or too many effects, thinking this will help make it sound better. Sometimes just keeping it simple is best.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Mostly electronic/pop/rock, but I also do a lot of commercial work making ambient, chill, lofi, and cinematic music. I've dabbled in pretty much everything except country, and am very comfortable learning and producing new genres.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: While I can pretty much do it all start to finish, especially when it comes to my personal music, when working with clients on their vision, I am strongest when given an already solid idea to work with so I can roll with an established foundation instead of starting an idea from scratch.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: Elevation. I can take something you're stuck on or you just haven't quite hit the mark on yet, and bring it to the next level. Sometimes in the form of major production overhauls, other times just by giving it a quality mix and master.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: I like to get an idea that I'm going in the right direction for the client's project. Usually I'll start with a basic idea (whether it be production or a mixdown), and send it their way for feedback. Once I know my work is headed the right way, I go into the details and hone it further.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: Windows 10 based system, running Ableton Live and more plugins than one should really need (I use many/most of them though). I also am setup to record both acoustic and electric guitar with a range of guitars to choose from, and also use an Arturia Keylab88 midi keyboard to record more organic/live feeling instrumentation.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: This has always been a moving target and will continue to move as I grow and experience more in the industry. Right now I'm very inspired by electronic artists such as Ford. or defsharp, but I also really love listening to composers such as Nils Frahm and Olafur Arnolds. Long term I've always been inspired by electronic icon Skrillex, as well as rock legends like Paramore and The Story So Far.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: Production, Mixing, and Mastering. When working with clients on their own projects, I most often work on bringing a written song to completion by finishing the production, and then often mixing and mastering the track for them.
