Interview with Joshua F. Williams
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started off in a great studio in Glendale California called Frontpage Recorders in 2001. There, I worked with many amazing artists (as either Engineer, Mixer, or Assistant engineer) such as Fergie, Bruce Springsteen, JC Chasez, Crooked I, Bone Thugs, Stevie Wonder etc.. From there I went on vacation in Dubai and saw potential in the city to eventually become a music hub in the world. so I stayed and now have my own production company. That choice has been very beneficial as I've gotten familiar with styles of music that I would not have been exposed to if I stayed in LA. While in Dubai I have worked the best in the region on all styles and international acts like Flo Rida, Akon, Go Play the World Vol 1. Vandalye, and more.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Its the best job in the world. There are magic moments that can only be created in the studio. when those are captured theres no better feeling in the world.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Dave Grohl because... well...It's Dave Grohl
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Passion and dedication to make each song the best it can be. Also, I have developed a sound over the years that if I would describe it, it would be a Big, Thick, Wall of sound.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It depends on the project. The main thing is to get absorbed in each project and become a fan of it. Every project is different.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I'm currently working in Pro Tools 11 or Logic X. The board is an Allen&Heath ML4000. My near fields vary from time to time but I currently have Genelec 1031's and KRK Rokit8's. For a full Microphone list or any other questions, please ask.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Rick Ruben, Dave Pensado, and Bobby Owsinski are who people who inspire me for many different reasons
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Having my own studio in Dubai has broadened my scope of work quite a bit. While located in the Middle East I have been fortunate to Produce, Mix, and Master for artists around the world from Indie Rock in India, to Reggaeton in Cuba and everything in between.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: i'm currently producing an Arabic jazz fusion band from Beirut and Dubai.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: If I take on the project, I will do everything I can to make it the best it can be and wont stop until I know it will compete with anything else out there.
