I'm a professional music producer, mixing engineer and session singer in the LA area. I want to help bringI mix and produce both in and out of the box, specializing in pop, electronic and urban genres. I also sing and write! I sound like John Legend. I write Bob Dylan/Carole King vibes.
Currently available for mixing, producing. Also available for session work/already written material you need recorded. I will refer you to another PRO if I'm unavailable at that time to help mix, produce, sing or write your project :-)
I have a disciplined and steady workflow recording and mixing from my private studio. I tend to approach and cultivate left of center sounds and melody and also have unique vocal style that fits many genres. I've had cuts with many independent artists and have also had TV/Film placements with my own music.
In my free time, I push my solo pop project under my artist name "Phinisey".
Featuring my name is not permitted because I retain it for my own project.

Endorse PhiniseyPhinisey is an incredibly talented vocalist, producer, and mixing engineer. Literally one of the most talented people I've worked with. I will definitely be hiring him again in the near future.
Phinisey is INCREDIBLE. Very talented and proficient at what he does. Professional and quick turnarounds, which is rare in this industry. He is extremely skilled at writing/producing/mixing, and very easy to work with.
Highly recommended!!!Phinisey is one of the best producer, mixer, vocal arranger, writer, and vocalist I know. He is so easy to work and always brings a positive attitude and energy, and he's also really quick and efficient. He's absolutely become one of my favorite people to work with and I highly recommend him.
Watching DJ work is mesmerizing. He is super skilled, efficient, and focused, and a master at his craft! He is also incredibly easy to work with, and we got a ton done in a short period of time. Absolutely looking forward to working together again.
Phinisey is one of my favorite mixing engineers. He has a great ear and has an amazing ability to listen and communicate with the client and understand the vision that they have. I never hear anything but great mixes! He’s great to work with.
Phinisey, is an amazing engineer and all around artist. If a professional industry standard sound is what you're looking for he is the man to contact!
Phinisey is great with working with artists, really cares about the song and what it's trying to convey, and is super creative with sounds that are very unique to his style. Highly recommend collaborating with him on your next song!
Phinisey can truly do it all - produce, arrange, mix, sing, write, etc. On top of that, he's mellow, patient and a great communicator. He's highly invested in the music he makes with all of his collaborators and he'll push you to make your best music.
I look forward to every session with Phinisey .. He is creative, positive, great at collaborating and an amazing engineer ... He is also a very talented singer/song writer/ artist !!!
DJ brings out the best in your vocals, your use of melody and your songwriting skills. He adds to your sound without changing it. I would work with him and I am very proud of what he helped create.
I love working with him, he's not only a very thorough & talented engineer with great musical taste (his producing and writing chops are pretty crazy) but he's also patient, open to suggestions, and fun to work with.
DJ helped us they a very formative time in our career , he helped us redefine our sound and helped us make an amazing album that was actually just granted City Arts Magazines’ June album of the month
This man is a wizard at engineering and production. He took my music to the next level sonically. Just give him an idea or direction of what your going for and BOOM! he will take it there in minutes. If that’s not enough he can even bless your songs with some soulful vocals if need be. Is there anything this man can’t do?!
I came to Phinisey w a specific but vague idea of what I wanted, we spoke and emailed at length...his ability to communicate and divine the truth of a thing led to my vision being executed to a tee, there was very little pressure or anxiety working w this dude, he makes professional, apt suggestions for the betterment of the project. I owe him a lot of gratitude for his thorough, skilled work. Can’t recommend him enough. 🎧🎹🎙
I worked with DJ on two of my songs so far and I couldn’t emphasize enough how happy I am with the work DJ has done! He is a professional, nurturing and knowledgeable engineer I would totally recommend to anyone who needs quality production.
Phinisey is a rare breed of producer. He has his own vision but doesn’t push it on you, he listens and works intently on creating original sounds, and he is extremely easy to talk to. As an artist, it’s important to feel safe to comment, critique, and relax in the studio, and with Phinisey, it came naturally.”
Phinisey took one of my songs, mix and mastered it and my streams are over 500K plays cross-platforms. Great artists !
Phinisey took my music to the next level. His production, mixing and artistry is up there with the best of them. Would highly recommend.
Phinisey is an incredible producer/mixer with amazing musicality. Great and easy to work with and all around really cool guy.
Interview with Phinisey
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Aijia Grammer's upcoming EP. A labor of love that I co-wrote and produced almost entirely. Great songs, great soundscapes, great vibes. We continue to write together every Monday and its just a discipline we've built up and great tunes have come from it and are getting noticed. Excited for the world to hear it and soak it in.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Various projects for artists, and for TV/Film. Also creating and releasing solo artist material.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Tyler Shamy and Natalie Major -- both amazing vocalists and top liners
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: BOTH. I think you can have such a beautiful marriage with the two. I like the commitment I have to make with analog. I like that creative restriction. And with digital, i like that I can break all the "rules". I like that I can push things to a limit far beyond the analog capacity sometimes, really allowing me to take my sounds to another level.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I try not to bite off more than I can chew. I want to give you 100 percent of me in whatever you are bringing me on to be apart of.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to do what I love. It doesn't feel like work, but it's pretty amazing that I get to pay my bills, my home, and put food on the table doing what I love to do -- what I feel like I was called to do.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: "what if..." questions, if that makes sense. Like, "what if we did this...?", and honestly my response is always "YES, LETS TRY IT. What's the worst that can happen? We don't like it and we go back, or maybe it leads us down another road to a different and BETTER result." At the end of a project, I never want any "what if" questions lefts. I want us both to feel like we tried everything that was on the brain and this piece or this project is the best that we could collectively do.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: that if you give me a crappy song, I can mix it (or produce it) and turn it into Beyonce. lol, I had a teacher early on tell me that "if someone brings you turd, you can clean and polish that turd all day, but at the end you've just got a clean, polished turd". If the song -- lyrics, melody, production -- isn't great, re-write it. Make it great. If the project wasn't recorded great, re-record it. Make it great.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you want to see come from this song/project? What's the goal for this?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be transparent. Be honest. Remember, this pays my bills, keeps my family fed. It's not a hobby. Don't lowball me.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A solar panel with a three prong plug in and USB port, computer, interface, mic cable, SM7. Boom.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started off as a vocal performance major (opera), and then fell in love with the guys who would record our performances. Wanted to be an audio engineer at that point. That was 12 years ago. Still at it!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I normally hang out left of center. I like doing things that are a little unconventional for modern tastes. I like to live in a state of M.A.Y.A - Most Advanced Yet Acceptable.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Julia Michaels actually, or Tove Lo. I really enjoy their writing styles and would love to cowrite with them, see how their brains work, learn from them.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Let go, move on, try something new.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I tend to be in a lot of Pop/Urban rooms, but it does vary. For instance, I'm currently mixing music for a trailer house.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Oooo, I think I have couple. 1) I'm really fast in my DAWs, Logic and ProTools. 2) I know vocal mixing very well. 3) I'm really good at letting go and moving on. 3) I show up every day.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I have a color. I have a unique palette and perspective on sounds. I'm also really good with vocals and vocal treatments and effects.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: To be transparent, it changes every time. I do that on purpose. Keeps me fresh, listening from different perspectives.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a private studio just outside LA in the valley. I run a combination of in-the-box and out-of-the-box for my producing and mixing. I love me some analog gear and synthesizers, but also love chopping them up and creating even crazier sounds within Logic or ProTools.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I love out of the box thinkers and doers. Kanye West is a big one for me, followed by Francis And The Lights.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Im mixing every morning and then I'm in cowriting sessions 6 days a week as both a producer and a writer. Im in these two zones constantly.
I was the co-producer and co-writer, as well as the mixer in this production
