Marsh Mastering/The Lathe Room on SoundBetter

Marsh Mastering / The Lathe Room is a no compromises audio boutique located in the heart of Los Angeles offering Analog Mastering and Lacquer Cutting services. Owner/operator Stephen Marsh has a 25 year track record working with award winning composers, artists and producers, including work on multiple Grammy nominees and winners.

Marsh Mastering's Main studio features a purpose-built hybrid tube/discrete console, developed in-house with Steve Firlotte of Inward Connections with custom and modified processing from EAR, GML, Maselec, A-Designs, and Inward Connections. The console operates in both Left/Right and Mid/Side configurations simultaneously. Console tubes are hand-selected Telefunkens and our elliptical and M/S networks are one-of-a-kind designs from Steve. Ampex ATR 104 and Studer A80 tape machines as well as a host of digital playback formats are supported for source playback.

Our second studio is The Lathe Room. Centering on a vintage Scully 601 Disk Mastering Lathe with custom wound Westrex stereo and Moncutterheads and a custom modifed Westrex amplifer rack. The entire system has been restored under the knowledagable eye of local Scully/Westrex 'Godfather' Len Horowitz. The Lathe Room has it's own analog mastering chain with EAR tube EQ, Maselec A/B program EQ's, Maselec compression & HF limiting, custom filtering by GOLY and a custom cutting console by Inward Connections. Mastering live to the lathe from analog tape is accomplished through a pair of Studer A80 tape machines with 1/4" and 1/2" configurations allowing for 100% analog mastering tape to disk.
