I love working on unique pop/indie-pop music with emotion, personality and strong aesthetic, and working with artists to help achieve their vision. Always excited to hear about ambitious new projects!
I work out of my private studio in Portsmouth, UK, writing, producing and engineering pop/indie/EDM/rock music with various artists.
Having achieved a BA (Hons) in Professional Music Production at the Academy of Contemporary Music, I have worked on multiple singles for artists and bands including Jordan Jones, The Bleechers, Gravel Rash, In the Atlantic and Tom Ward.
I am also an active solo artist and have received acclaim from BBC Radio.
In 2018 I achieved an M.A. in Sound Design for Film and Television with Distinction at Bournemouth University.
I'm always interested in working closely with artists to ensure their vision is achieved to the highest possible standard.

Interview with Sam Ray
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I love to ask for references when people are looking for a song or a production. It's really great to know you're on the same wavelength as an artist and that you're both pulling the same direction.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure that the person you're hiring is passionate about making your music great - that's the most important thing!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'm a very melodic songwriter, and I love lyrics with character, quirk and emotion.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Song and arrangement are King and Queen.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Currently working at my home studio with Logic Pro X, Pro Tools 12, Waves, Steven Slate, FabFilter, Kontakt Library and a bunch of other software. Hardware wise I'm currently running a 2018 iMac with a PreSonus FirePod, an SE Electronics z3300a, a Shure SM57 Beta, a Blue Spark, a Audio Technica AT2020, a Rhode NT1A, plus multiple guitars and amps.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Chirs Lord-Alge was my first production idol, but currently I'm really into the production of 'Emotion' by Carly Rae Jepsen, 'Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life' by The Wombats, and Luna Shadows. Musically, I love Bruce Springsteen, The Cure, blink-182, LANY, Passion Pit, Porter Robinson - I'm a real mixed bag!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do a lot of work songwriting, top lining and helping artists to develop their writing style/aesthetic during the production process. I also often engineer, record and mix rock/indie bands too.
