Louise is a very talented singer and songwriter. Great vocals and smart texting significantly improved my track. A great pleasure to work with and highly recommended.
Louise is an incredible singer and writer! I worked with her recently on a comedy tv show theme tune. She wrote a very catchy, memorable top line to my chord sequence and general groove. It suited what I had perfectly, and it didn't take long for us to arrive at the end of the songwriting process.
In the recording phase, Louise was brilliant. You'll not find a more capable, prepared, professional singer than Louise. It was a very enjoyable, quick process to record her vocals. The character in Louise's voice is amazing, and was exactly what the song needed to stand out!
Louise is an excellent, versatile and established professional vocalist. She's also a lovely person! She'll make any project better.
Incredible singer! Professional, always note-perfect and genuinely a lovely person to work with. I produced a few tracks on her album and play Keyboards in her band. She's fab!
Incredible singer. Professional, great ear and always note-perfect. She's also just lovely to work with. I've worked with her on her upcoming EP, and currently play in her band. She's fab!
Louise is an incredible vocalist arranger and human! Very professional and always delivers the goods to time and way above expectation. I highly recommend her for any project as she is very versatile and just lovely to work with ! Thanks again!
Louise is an amazingly talented vocalist with an artist's & producer's mind. I have been working with her on a song for a TV commercial & she was always spot on & quick from early layouts to the final mix, convincing a large number of decision makers through all the stages of production. She loves arranging harmonies and knows her way around recording as well. In the end, everyone involved loves the outcome & her voice which helped making the commercial convincing & become one of my personal favourites.
I’ve been working with Louise for a while on various commercial projects ranging from high tier library content for BMG through to adverts and film work. She is always fantastic, professional and blazingly fast at responding to any questions. I have no hesitation in recommending her, especially for sultry yet warm soul vocals.
Interview with Louise Golbey
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Through Soundbetter - I was approached by a Berlin based company to sing on a Mercedes advert in 2021. It was one of the biggest things to happen to me musically as the advert was shown all over the world on TV and in cinemas.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working on a Jazz / Soul library album with Cato Hoeben for BMG plus I'm also working on new music for my own artist project with a couple of different producers which I am planning on releasing this year.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Cato Hoeben - and incredible composer who I have written with for years. He has won awards for his work on TV and Film. Kiris Houston - An arranger / producer / songwriter. Who I worked with on a French artist's album- he found me through Soundbetter! He has worked with Little Mix, Jess Glynne and Kylie Minogue to name a few plus he has won a latin grammy!. he also features on my podcast The Songwriters Podcast (in association with The Ivors Academy)
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: digital. Although when I'm in the studio working on live tracks - there's still nothing better than the sound of live instruments
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: that I will deliver high quality output.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love being creative and I love working with talented people and getting inspired by the people I work with.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: they often ask me how long a recording session will be / how many hours will I need. However, this does depend from project to project and what is asked of the client...
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: coming up with original ideas for lyrics - saying something that hasn't been said before, or saying it in a different way...
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask what their deadline / time frame is. What their budget is and what they expect from the service (ie: rounds of amendments etc)
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Check their credentials - maybe ask for samples of their work too. Work with people recommended by others.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: microphone, laptop, interface, vocal booth and ipad.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been writing, recording and gigging for around 15 years and have worked with some incredible musicians and producers over the years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Soulful.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: One of my dream collaborations (as well Neptunes) would be writing and recording a duet with John Legend. II have always thought our voices would blend well together as we both have natural vibratos.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Make sure you have a good mic!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I do a lot of Soul, R'n'B and Jazz but have also written and recorded house tracks too..
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My vocal recording and harmony arranging.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I have been told my voice is unique - plus I absolutely love harmonies - so if soulful layers is what you want - I'm ya girl! I also have years of experience writing with different people, in person and remotely.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: For writing - I often like to write to instrumentals and then develop the structure with the producer. Or I start at the piano and take an idea to a producer / co-writer. For vocal recording / editing - I record section by section and add layers and harmonies accordingly. I always send the stems dry as wavs.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a professional home studio set up, I use Logic Pro, a Scarlet Interface and Rode NT 2A microphone and have soundproof treatment in the room.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: vocally - some of my favourite singers are musicians on the same circuit as me - Natalie Williams, Vula, Sharlene Hector. Production wise - my dream producers to work with would be Neptunes!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I have recorded vocals for many releases over the years, I also write toplines and collaborate with producers and other songwriters on various genres for commercial release and library and sync tracks for tv, film and adverts. . I speak fluent French too and have recorded tracks in French before too (most recently for a well known French artist called Jenifer). I also arrange harmonies and can edit vocals.
