Santino Polidoro on SoundBetter

I'm an Italian Trombonist and Mixing/Recording engineer. As musician, I understand music, the artist's goals and desires. My communication is direct, open and I am focused on groove, punch and warmth.

My whole life has been focused on music. I started as a trombonist and continued as an engineer. I played with multiple bands, orchestras and artists.

My workflow on recording is using a minimal path to reduce risk of failures and impacting the quality of the sound. I like working fast trying to not interrupt the flow of the artists because music comes first and the artist follows along. If needed I can edit the song by aligning bad recorded instruments and also correct the pitches of the tracks (if really needed).

I like to use top of the range plugin and hardware equipment when I record, mix and master. I own lots of world class plugin, outboard and microphones in order to treat the sound in the best possible way. My goal is to help artists to get the sound they want.

Interview with Santino Polidoro

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: The recording process is the 90% of the song. If you record well, you'll get a great song.

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: I usually work with Jazz, Blues, Country, Funk and Pop/Rock.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: My personal taste and expertise, especially on the recording process.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: Tipically I start by talking with the artists in order to understand their vision of the project and the sound they want. Then, if needed, I start a pre-production process by refining some elements of the project and then I go through the recording and mixing process.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: My setup is based on a Focusrite DAC connected to a patchbay which allows me to replace the Focusrite pre-amp with some Neve pre-amp and other EQs and Compressors. As main monitor I use a pair of Genelec 8030 CP with a subwoofer from dbTecnologies.

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: Mainly I'm inspired by musicians like Herbie Hancock, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Diana Krall and Troy Andrews and Al Schmitt, Rudy Van Gelder and Chris Lord-Alge as music professionals.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: Most of the time recording and mixing but sometimes also producing and mastering.
