Interview with Jason Rodriguez
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are your goals with your music? How many songs would you like to have?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If you're straight forward in what you like, let me know! All about building a foundation for future collaboration!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: a drum kit, a guitar, a laptop, interface, condenser mic
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My career path is of a full-time musician. I would also love to have some producer/engineering credits as well. I have been playing music/self recording for about 20 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style would be relaxed but consistent
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with the French artist, Fhin. His production and sound choices are so amazing.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't limit yourself! Music may be subjective but that shouldn't stop your creativity or curiosity!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on indie pop. I've also done rock, Hawaiian, and even kid's songs.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is persistence. I basically won't rest until a song I do has been perfected as much as possible!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring creativity and more life to a song. I experiment with an array of sounds to see what fits best.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: A typical work process for me is listening to the song in its entirety and labeling sections as I go. Clean up the tracks (labeling, color coding, etc). I typically start with the drums (if live) and build from there!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Have access to a great studio in Torrance! Amazing live room with some fantastic microphones (Telefunken, Shure, AKG, Sennheiser) Amazing outboard gear for processing and 5 different drum kits to choose from!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
