Interview with Alex Wilson

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: Dax Liniere.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: I grew up with digital and am comfortable using it, but I don't think it really matters much to the listener in the end.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: Usually rock of the alternative variety, sometimes material that is predominantly electronic.

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: Collaborating with an artist and bringing out the best in their ideas.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: A desire to find it's emotional core and express that through the production and the mix.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: I start by creating demos with the client (or reviewing the demos they have made) to ensure the material is the best it can be. Then the material is recorded and mixed. I have a network of trusted session musicians (including myself!) that I can bring in to work on the client's music if this is something they desire.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: Currently small and versatile, built around Universal Audio, but ever-expanding.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: The Brendan O'Brien & Nick DiDia Steven Wilson My friend and mentor Dax Liniere, who is a large part of the reason I currently do this work.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: Recording and mixing songs, usually with additional pre-production and song workshopping.
