Interview with Merethe JM
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My debut single "Homeless" that I released along with a music video when I attended the music school Trøndertun in 2015. This song received national radio listings, was included in the documentary film project "Prosjekt Hjemløs", it landed me a semi-final spot in The International Songwriting Competition along with securing me with the Jury Wildcard position in one of Norway's biggest songwriting competitions Bandwagon all within that same year.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently focusing on making demos and writing songs for both my own artist project and for pitching, but I'm also focusing on co-writes to help the people in my community finish up their music whenever they're stuck with the songs they're working on so that they can be released for their projects.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I prefer digital mostly because it's easier to get acces to and most things are so up to date now with where we're at technologically that you can barely tell the difference between them anymore.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Just because I'm a topliner it doesn't automatically mean that I will be the one who provides vocals for your songs. I can send you demo vocals but I am very clear about not wanting to do any features yet.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Mac, Shure SRH840A headset, Apollo Twin, Warm Audio WA-87 and probably a midi keyboard (along with my hard drives of course so I can create abundantly).
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: After a year at Trøndertun Folkehøgskole I studied Music Design at Høyskolen Kristiania in 2015-2017.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Giving yourself the space, patience and creative freedom to fail yourself forward without judgement will be your best friend on your way towards becoming an even greater creator.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Macbook Pro, Logic Pro X, Apollo Twin, Neumann KH 80 DSP, Warm Audio WA-87 are my main tools. I also have a Roland FP-4, a Morgan acoustic guitar and an Epiphone Les Paul guitar, ukulele, violin and other miscellaneous stuff to play around with when I'm in the studio.
I was the artist, songwriter and lead guitarist in this production
