Jesse Lyons

Session Singer & Songwriter

Jesse Lyons on SoundBetter

I have been mentored by Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, Randy Jackson, Walter Afanasieff (Writer of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" & "Hero" -Mariah Carey) and Tim Davis, just to name a few. Also, my first release as a featured artist on an EDM track, "Out Of Heaven" has managed to garner over half a million views in a short period of time on Youtube.

I'm a singer/songwriter and a session singer. I have been mentored by Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, Randy Jackson, and Walter Afanasieff. I write top lines in Soul, Pop, Pop-Rock, Country and many other genres, and I also make demos for clients in these genres for songs they have already written. I'd be more than happy to help you edit a song you've written, record your demo, or write a top line completely from scratch. ๐Ÿ˜ I have been writing songs for 5 years now, and I am absolutely positive you will be more than satisfied with the results on whatever project you hire me for. I am an expert top line writer, and I work extremely hard to understand the clients vision and bring it to life. I am also available to travel to sing live for events or in your studio with enough notice in advance.

I have a personal studio with great gear that I use for my vocal recordings, I however, am not a sound engineer. Any product that I deliver will be raw and unmixed typically. If you do prefer a mix and master I have an excellent network of sound engineers that I regularly use. Depending on what your needs are, I can outsource the right person to mix and polish our song. I am honest and hardworking, and if I feel as though I will not be able to deliver on your project with great results, I will let you know up front. Let's get to work on your vision and create something amazing!

Interview with Jesse Lyons

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: Dream Addix and Brandon Sammons, because they are hands down the best producers I have ever worked with.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Making dreams come true. It's really special to see someone I have helped along the way succeeding. I live for that!

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: The most important question to ask a potential client is what their ultimate goal is and the vision they have. I will do anything in my power to help my clients reach their goals.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: Vocally, a nice rich low end and a nice airy high. Always very soulful no matter the style I am singing.

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: My top dreams artist to write a song with would be -Adele, because I get so moved by the way she emotes when she sings. Her phrasing is very beautiful and complicated at the same time and I really admire that. -Sia, because my songwriting process has a lot in common with her process and I admire her work ethic first, and her success secondly.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: My most common genres of music that clients bring to me are EDM tracks, Rap Hooks, and general Pop. Clients tend to be particularly fond of country demos that they have asked me to sing.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: My strongest skill would be writing top lines to tracks.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I always bring my best to a song, no less. Anything under 150% is unacceptable.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: For writing a song, my process is to start by meditating on a theme and/or what the client wants the song be to about. It has to be authentic, inspired and not forced. Sometimes it takes hours listening to a track to be inspired on a track and other times it takes just a few minutes. My record for writing a complete song is 5 minutes and the most I have ever spent on a song is a few weeks. No matter how much time is spent, my goal is for the song to be a great song that connects with the listener and moves them somehow, whether that be emotionally, physically, or both.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I have a small personal studio in my house which I use for recording vocals. I always get fantastic results. I use an Aston Spirit Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone and a UA Mark II Interface. I have never had a complaint.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: For Songwriting: Sia, Ryan Teddar, Adele, Dan Wilson, Tobias Jesso Jr., Diane Warren, Elton John just to name a few For Artistry: Aretha Franklin, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Babyface, Sam Smith, John Legend, Whitney Houston

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: The most common type of work I do for my clients is recording vocals for songs they have written.
