My name is Josquin des Pres. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Gipsy Kings "Mira La Chica" Reggaeton Remix 2006. Remix Producer. The song was great to start with and I was able to give it a great club vibe.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Working on a song for Warner Bros TV.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital because of the quick editing capacity, also nowadays it all ends up compressed as an MP3 anyway. However, we do start with tube mic-preamps.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: We rely on repeat clients, whether a major label or an individual we only want happy clients.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Every morning I get up and I get to do music. I have the best job in the world.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What's next once their project is completed. I give lots of free industry advice.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: There are many of producers. Few can make music without electricity: Play multiple acoustic instruments, write songs, sight read music etc.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I always ask what do they plan to do with the project once it's completed.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Know your end goal before you hire anyone. Different objectives may require different services.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Acoustic Guitar, Acoustic Bass, iPhone (to record), 2 percussion instruments (1 high and 1 low)

Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I've done many genres in my career but I always gravitate to pop.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Lady Gaga. Her vocal delivery is awesome.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The vocal is most important!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Anything Pop, Pop Rock, Pop R&B. Pop-Hip Hop, Pop-EDM.
Q: What's your strongest skill?

Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Whether I am doing the full production, adding an instrument or simply mixing, I am all about making sure everything serves the song so that the melody stands out. My clientele is songwriters and singer songwriters. So the hook matters most.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: We get in at 10AM everyday and leave when we're done...
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a hybrid system. 16 channels of tube Mic Preamps into Pro-Tools 12 HDX. Large selection of microphones. We've been at the same location for over 20 years in a stand alone building on University Ave. in La Mesa, California (East of San Diego)
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Anything new and current. Always looking for the next great new artist that'll grab my attention.

A: Full production for Singer Songwriters from up and coming to legendary.
