Interview with Graci Phillips
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I'm assuming this desert island gets some sort of phantom power--so I would have to say my microphone and 4 different instruments! I would get bored if I could only play one forever! At home I regularly play guitar, bass, mandolin, and uke.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been doing music most of my life, my parents are singer-songwriters. I grew up singing and playing with my family and started recording my first album in high school! I couldn't do anything else. I love it!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Folky, with a little pop, maybe some hints of jazz!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Chris Thile! His creativity and writing are so inspiring to me. I would love to watch his creative process and be part of it!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If you don't have a sound booth, a walk in closet can be a great substitute. ;)
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My personal music is folk-pop, but I love a range of genres! I love doing jazz vocals as well as dance/EDM vocals! It's really fun to step out of my own artistry and try new things!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Vocal performance.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I have a unique sound that you can't find just anywhere! Plus, I'm incredibly laid back and always work hard to make sure I'm delivering exactly what you're looking for.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Well, every project is different, but I like to spend a lot of time with a song before I try a vocal on it. Really listen to it, memorize it, and be able to fully immerse myself in it. This makes such a big difference in achieving an emotionally poignant vocal performance.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a humble home studio that I've built in my garage! I'm constantly learning new things about the recording process and strive to continue to improve my knowledge and recording skills!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm a big fan of The Beatles! Right now I'm also really digging Madison Cunningham, Punch Brothers (really anything Chris Thile does), and The Beach Boys!

A: Providing great vocals, including BGVs and vocal arranging!
