Interview with -___--__

  1. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  2. A: We work in all commercial genres ranging from Pop to Rock to Country or even Folk, R&B and Blues with a touch of mainstream in it.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: Our biggest asset is that we can push your song to the next level. Music production became so accessible today but the human ear will never be replaced by software.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: Me personally as one of the co founders of SongCat have been involved in the music industry for a number of years. It all started when I was nine years old and my parents bought me a piano. Ever since I have been developing my piano skills and started to write and produce music in College. After a few internships in well established studios, my career path was clear. I want to make music professionally. But, as with many things in life, you need to overcome a few hurdles before reaching a specific goal, so I started working normal "day jobs" and did music on the side building my portfolio and networking. Since 2011 I'm lucky enough to be able to work on music exclusively as my "day job" and nights now serve the purpose of sleep and resting before another long and interesting day in the studio.

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: When it comes to composing music, keep it simple. Don't try to come up with an overly complicated chord progression. Simple is the key - Have a listen to songs in the top 10 of the charts and analyze those. You probably won't find anything too complicated in the songs. Simple is what gets stuck in your audience's heads.

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: Many, probably too many to list them all here. It really depends on what genre and part of the production we are talking about. When it comes to songwriting/lyrics writing Shaffer Smith (Ne-Yo) is one of the most talented musicians out there. The words he pens out for himselve and other artists is out of this world. When it comes to music production Mikkel and Tor of Stargate are simply amazing. I haven't met a more talented production team for Pop and Urban music and actually learn a lot about music composing and production from their music. Talking about post production, Miles Walker is the man for that. He puts so much attention for detail in each song making sure the mix really cuts through and stands out from the rest.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: Most of our clients hire us to produce the full song either with them as the performer/singer or choosing one of our talented session vocalists. However, we also get many requests to handle just one part of the production such as mixing, mastering or adding one specific instrument to the song.
