Interview with Elise Kathryn
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more! It's about the performance and the emotion behind it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: All different kinds, to be honest. I have worked in country, pop, R&B, soul, music for ads -- you name it :)
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Above all, I am a singer. I pride myself on being able to deliver a really great vocal.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: As an artist, my songs are always heartfelt and soulful. I have worked in many different facets of the music industry so I understand the different markets and what is competitive in each one. My flexibility and ability to listen and really work with the client are two of my greatest assets.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually start by communicating with the client to find out exactly what they are looking for out of their project. If it's an emotional song for them, I want to know so I can tap into that. If it's for an advertisement or a tv placement, I want to know so I can approach it that way. I have worked in a LOT of different genres, so I am able to be very flexible.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am inspired by so many people! I live in Nashville in a rich musical community and am inspired on a daily basis by my peers. I grew up listening to 60's folk music and later found myself immersed in R&B/soul & pop music. I love it all. In terms of production, I love styles that keep the song and the vocal at the forefront.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I love working with my clients to ensure that they are getting exactly what they want out of their songs. From recording vocals, to the songwriting and editing processes, I want to be as involved as possible.
