Interview with Molly Moore
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I recently worked with my boyfriend Brandyn Burnette on his first full album under a new name EMAN8. My role is as a songwriter and I'm really proud of the work we've done together because it's fresh & energetic & inspiring. :)
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My first full length album, Cosmos & Creature's first EP.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Brandyn Burnette!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. Getting into analog. Hard question. It's easier? Haha.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will always put my whole heart into anything I do. I will always work on it until you're satisfied.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to be creative, I get to help other people express their creativity through collaboration.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Do you need the mp3? my answer is: yes! Can you record doubles/harmonies?: my answer is: yes! Am I able to release this song?: my answer is yes! (let's discuss further details)
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I think the biggest misconception is that it's super challenging. While it definitely can have setbacks, making music is a very blessed skill to have & it's a lot of fun to capitalize on potential & inspiration. I feel very lucky to do what I do.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What kind of publishing/master split are you thinking for this? Are you looking to feature my name if you use my vocals for a release?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Communicate clearly & quickly for the best result.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My takamine acoustic guitar, slate digital VSR microphone, audiotechica headphones, apollo interface, alesis midi keyboard
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm a published songwriter & artist. I've been writing professionally for 3 years, but started initially writing songs at 7 :)
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I'd say it's minimal pop/soul with catchy hooks & unique melodies.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with BANKS because I'm a huge fan of her artistry & songwriting.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Stay minimal but weird
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Progressive soul, pop, electronic
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Songwriting.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I love catchy melodies & word play. it's so much fun to tell a story that's unique, different, not just about the typical things people tend to write about, but still very relatable and accessible. I like to explore different sides of myself, tap into different characters and always try to self-edit and make sure it's the best it can be. most importantly, music is healing for me. I am always trying to spread love and a positive message.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to record my first pass of melodies/lyrics and work from there if I like the vibe. Sometimes I'll start with a voice note idea I've already recorded or a title/text note/concept. I try not to force it and let the inspiration come to me if I get stuck at all.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have an apollo twin interface, m-audio monitors, slate digital VSR microphone with the preamp, fender duosonic electric guitar, vintage korg sv1 keyboard, alesis 8 piece electronic drumkit
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Max Martin, John Mayer, Chris Martin, BANKS, Tom Misch
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
