Remote Rock Mixing

Pancho Arenas on SoundBetter

A four-time Pulsar Award winner (Chile's version of the Grammys), I specialize in professional mixing. My key skill is quickly dialing in the perfect sound for every track, ensuring your music has the sonic impact it needs to cut through and stand out.

My journey began when I was a child, probably around three or four years old. I was completely fascinated by my mom singing and playing songs by Violeta Parra on her guitar. I remember not being able to understand how she knew where to place her fingers to make it sound so beautiful. It immediately captured my attention, and from that moment on, I’ve never been apart from music.

As I got older, I developed a passion for audio itself. My curiosity led me to take apart every piece of audio equipment I could get my hands on, performing my first sonic experiments. I was always driven by a deep instinct to explore and experiment.

Today, I have extensive experience in the development of Chilean and South American Rock/Pop and Metal, and I've had the privilege of working with incredible musicians. It's been my pleasure to receive four Pulsar Awards (Chilean Grammys) for my work on the following albums:

Recrucide - The Cycle (2018)
Nunca Seremos Dichosos - Kollong (2020)
Overtoun - This Darkness Feels Alive (2022)
Tenemos Explosivos - Cortacalles (2023)

Interview with Pancho Arenas

  1. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  2. A: My primary influences include Freddie Mercury, Sting, Phil Collins, and Jeff Buckley, all of whom I admire for their distinctive interpretative styles and compositional abilities. I'm also drawn to Rick Rubin's impeccable production and Brian Eno's creative approach to ambient music. Collectively, their methods have underscored the value of authenticity and innovation throughout the production process.

  3. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  4. A: I'm truly excited by music that tells a powerful story, whether it's through deeply meaningful lyrics or instrumentation that evokes strong emotions. I feel a special connection to rock from the 70's, 80's, and 90's, especially the progressive rock movement of the late 70's and how it laid the groundwork for '80s pop (artists like Genesis, Phil Collins, and Peter Gabriel come to mind). I love how bands like Queen, Yes, Genesis, and Radiohead create soundscapes that are both complex and incredibly moving.
