Interview with Eugene Lai
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Usually EDM, but am venturing into Chill & Pop.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I try to deliver as much I could to the table.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Able to work with clients, and see them being happy once I successfully completed their job!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Do you even earn enough to cover how much time you spent on doing jobs if others pay a low amount? At this moment I do not really focus more on how much I earn, but rather how well I can work with my clients and improve myself as a producer.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I know that I do not have any credits on a song, but I do wish you give me a chance and let me learn and improve as you could pay as much as you want with no catch.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been producing music in my bedroom since 2 years ago, and I think it's time for me to gain experience on how to be a music producer as well as a sound engineer to improve my skillset.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I try not to be as generic as possible and experiment with every new project that I try to create which will then have something new to it.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Chelsea Cutler. Her voice is so special and her lyrics are so emotional and well thought.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always take breaks to refresh your ears from fatigue.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Ghost Producing EDM tracks.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: For EDM based, mainly memorable melodies to keep the listener hooked to it. And for Pop/Chill, mainly depends on the client's needs as the song could be based on emotions.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Martin Garrix mainly for EDM genres. Now I'm slowly venturing into the Chill and Pop genre in music and I've been listening more to Chelsea Cutler, Quinn XCII, ayokay and Wingtip.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Currently I want to work as a Music Producer for clients to gain more experience as well as being able to learn how to work towards my client's needs.
