Interview with Exenia
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My collaboration with Le Boeuf was a beautiful single we released on Warner Music Denmark - it was so cool to start collaborating internationally.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Songwriting and finishing my ideas!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Romeo Taylor is a talented producer and friend.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital - it's fast and full of options.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: They will LOVE and be very impressed with what I can do on their track.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love to sing! It brings me peace and makes me happy.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How quickly can you send a demo or idea back? Within 48 hours.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: It's "easy" to sing well if it looks effortless - it's taken years to be this at ease performing! Also that singing in-studio and live are the same - they feel totally different.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: How fast do you want this done? Who are your favorite artists?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Give me clear examples of what you want
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My mic, my headphones, my interface, my pop filter, and my Akai keyboard
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been performing or making music since I was a teenager - over 10 years now. I find myself on SoundBetter to make more connections with creative people who love what they do.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Relatable glam
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I wrote a song for Chris Brown once, and I'd like to do that again so I can see his magic in-studio
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Trust your instincts - sometimes it really was the first or second take!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, EDM, R&B
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm clever with wordplay as a lyricist, I'm also a dancer so I know how to build melodies and ideas that make people want to move, so I can produce high energy, beautiful vocals
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Energy!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I listen to the demo and have a call with the collaborator so we can discuss where they want to go artistically! We listen to references or examples and I draft a version of what they need. Once it's confirmed we run with it and I send vocals or lyrics over.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in Logic Pro using a standard condenser mic, pop filter and engineering knowledge
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Tyla, Bruno Mars, Kehlani, H.E.R., Kaytrananda
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I'm often hired as a singer or songwriter to bring a project to life with clean vocals! I've been compared to Rihanna, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Dua Lipa, Whitney Houston and Rita Ora - my voice is incredibly clear, my enunciation is complete, my vibrato is "pretty" and producers who love my tone will ask me to bring their songs to another level.
