Interview with Jess Soccorsi

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I was very proud of my SÜ indie/pop singles. They’ve all been signed to different Sync companies in LA, Nashville and Dallas for potential movie and show placements. I was the artist and got to express myself in different ways while trying to hone a “sound”. It was a fun outlet for me and it was well received in the arenas it reached.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Worship writing and Sync

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: You will have a good, professional experience working with me. I am all about clear, consistent communication so I will give that and expect that in return. I will provide radio-ready performance and content, so you will be happy with the finished product.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love the creativity of writing and the freedom of singing words and melodies you’ve created.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What is your timeframe for this project and expected deadlines? What are your specific goals in style and delivery? What artist(s) and track are you referencing? What will this project be used for and how is it being released?

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: My natural strength is crafting melodies and lyrics, but I can also provide a unique artist vocal that is airy and delicate, with power when needed.

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: Mac Computer, Alesis keyboard, mic, Apollo, interface, and electric guitar.

  29. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  30. A: My career goals have always been primarily songwriting and toplining. However, I do consider myself an artist and had previously been releasing music under the name “SÜ” for about a year and a half. While that project was fun and embodies a lot of my pop personality, I’ve been more invested lately in writing TV/Film music that can be used in multiple genres.

  32. A: Indie pop, dream/ambient chill.

  33. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  36. A: Sync and Pop music.

  40. A: Vocal melody, lyrics and often times production ideas and notes.

  41. Q: What's your typical work process?

  42. A: I have writing sessions 3-5 days a week, usually more than less. I collaborate with a producer/track engineer and often times another topliner. We will write to a brief or gear the session towards a specific artist project depending on who it’s for.

  43. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  44. A: As a topliner and vocalist I typically work with producers in their studios. However, I do have a basic recording setup at home. I track on Logic using a basic recording mic, interface, midi keyboard and samples.

  45. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  46. A: Dagny, Betty Who, Gabrielle Aplin, BANKS, Sleeping At Last, Coldplay, John Mayer.

  47. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
