Justin Bjur on SoundBetter

I value creativity and originality as the best part of music. I consider myself a listener and I take great joy in helping people achieve their musical visions. I Co-wrote and fully produced I've Got The Gold. Which had a remix that charted 23 on Switzerland viral and 34 on Poland viral chart.

I can help you take your ideas from something in your head to full completion. We can dream up your project together and work to help uncover your authenticity and voice along the way. I am currently a full-time Berklee Online student with a focus on Composition and Production. I have learned from Dennis Desantis Abletons head of Documentation as well as Brian Funk who is an Ableton Certified Trainer. I have been playing Acoustic Guitar for 10 years and have a background with Delta Blues and Fingerstyle.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

I have worked with Justin on several projects now and I have never been disappointed with his musical output. On top of that, he is always quick to respond, in spite of the time difference, and his communications are always friendly and clear. I would recommend collaborating with Justin on every level and in every capacity.

I have nothing but good things to say about Justin, not only in terms of the quality of his songwriting, performance and production, but also his friendly and prompt communication in spite of our time difference.

I would work with him again in a heartbeat and sincerely hope I do. He makes really great music!

Interview with Justin Bjur

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I am working on finishing setting up my studio in an arts and activism collective. Then at the beginning of the new year, I will be working on my solo project JB Orion which is dives into experimental music with folk influences.

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: Alive - Hozier - I find his approach to songwriting and music to be very thought out and meaningful. Also fearlessness in addressing huge social issues. Dead - Bob Marley - An absolutely brilliant artist at conveying simple emotions in an extraordinarily beautiful way.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: iMac 5k and MacBook Pro Retina, Shure SMB, an array of condenser mics, Summit Audio 2BA, Apollo 8, Several UAD Plugins, All The Fab Filter Plugins, Izotope Ozone 8, Neutron 2, Nectar.

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: Justin Vernon, Ethan Johns, James Blake, Joni Mitchell, Rick Rubin.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: Helping Achieve prosody in a record. Songwriting, Vocal Editing and Sound Design and Beat Programming.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: What are your musical goals and aspirations?

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: Left field and open minded. I like to think of music as art and take the commodity aspect out of the equation when I am creation mode. At the end of the day, it's about emotion and authenticity.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Good sounds can come from anything and goal-less exploration is under-rated in a world where productivity is extremely valued. try to emulate a sound from something you love, then take the time to make it your own.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: Mostly Electronic Music I am a bigger listener of Alternative and folk though so I like to think that that bleeds over into my workflow.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: Songwriting for sure.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: I like to think that I have a good sense of knowing how to lift the artist's artistic goals up. While incorporating contemporary production skills into the song.
