Andrzej Hardie-Douglas

Remote Mixing Engineer

Andrzej Hardie-Douglas on SoundBetter

Hey. I specialise in Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter stuff. Either you're happy with my mix or you don't pay! :)

I am a graduate of Sound Engineering and Production at the Birmingham City University.

My journey with mixing started when I first learned how to play electric guitar. At some point, I decided that I should probably study sound production and do it for a living. I have always loved the singer-songwriter stuff, but can also mix any rock related genres. I am still relatively new to the game, but I promise to make your records as good as I possibly can.

Every mixer has its own style and I love clean and big mixes with a variety of reverbs sounding throughout the song. I believe I can help you achieve the much needed coherence in your productions.

Interview with Andrzej Hardie-Douglas

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I have finished BSc Sound Engineering and Production in 2016. However, I have been mixing music since 2011.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: At the moment digital. It is portable and I like the ability of total recall.

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: What do you expect from me? What type of sound do you aim for? Who recorded your tracks and how?

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: Open and clean. Probably contemporary. I am learning how to add more 'dirt' to the mix.

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: John Mayer. I admire his songwriting skills.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Do not be afraid to add significant amounts of bass to the mix. Especially if you come from electric guitar 'background'.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: If the stems are of great quality then I only add 'the extra spark'. If there are other problems I will try to fix them first.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: Chop the stems, make the song balanced in terms of EQ and tracks volume, add effects then tweak the parameters. Repeat for as long as necessary! :D

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: I mix exclusively in the box using Logic Pro X and various plugins. For monitoring I use Adam Audio S3A and Sonodyne SM 50AK.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: I love the work of Michael Brauer and Andrew Scheps.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: At the moment I only do remote, 'virtual' mixing.
